What is bothering me about the 7046LTE is the blade on the back of the main blade, from the pictures it seem to be extremely insecure when the knife is closed.
I have the SanRenMu 7046LTE-LKR, the gold coloured pieces that you can see are the liners and the wedge shaped opening “disc” nothing insecure with this knife open or closed, the swedge at it’s tip is covered by the lanyard loop, you would have to be really trying to hurt yourself on it.
The blade shape is called a Besh Wedge and has an extremely strong tip for prying etc. if needed, although I prefer a small pry-bar in my kit. The blade shape has two sharp edges plus the tip.
This is my favourite, just out of reach of my budget, knife at the moment - $60.
The 7046 was delivered with the sharpest blade I’ve ever had from a factory edge.
There is a glass breaker, a bottle opener and a wrench of sorts, lanyard loop and tip up or down right hand side carry.
I bought it to see if I could get away with the blade shape for every day tasks, yes I can, it would be a good choice, I really like mine a lot.
I’ve recently bought a 9052MTC-GH which has two tools in common with the ZTB-T21, the can opener and the belt cutter.
on both that and the -
The belt cutters were as dull as an anvil. Not saying that it would be on the ZB4-T21 but it’s possible, easy to sharpen with the right sharpener.
I’ve had a knife with the same handle materiel pattern (CRKT Hammond Cruiser) and it’s very good, grippy without causing hot spots. You don’t have to grip as tight to maintain a firm grip if you see what I mean.
There are too many designs of multi tool to point you in the right direction, only you know what is suitable.
I quite like the Dark Skellern from Victorinox Swiss army knives, if you are flexible then there’s one to suit you, don’t know if they do one with a glass breaker.
I would get a Victorinox Farmer or some other kind of Vic multitool, and a pocket clip such as the P-7 suspension clip, or even customize the scale to attach a clip like this dude has done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YKSESA1fcE
Good to know the 7046 is safe on the wedge because I think I have seen someone in a video cut something with it but maybe he has sharpen it…
I find the two other sanrenmu especially ugly, the 7053 look like a dried fish. J)
The Real Steel are way too big and heavy for EDC, same for swiss army tools and they don’t have side clip with glass breaker and have IMO too many useless tools.
I also considered the Gerber X19 but its way too heavy, 250g ! And I’m not confident with automatic knife.
Similar knifes seem to be also too heavy and of unknown quality.
Omega_17, have you thought about getting one of the “Res-Q-Me” type of cutters and glass breakers?
Then a pocket knife with a can opener like this P-51 on a keyring.
The “dried fish” knife I think of as the shrimp knife so no harm done there. The 7046 does come to a sharp point at the tip of the swege so you could cut with the absolute end but not while folded.
Absolutely Chloe, with the sizes it’s more like the Real Steel version but I’d like to bet it was designed by LiangGang. T98
I was surprised at the size and weight of the 9052MTC-GH that I got recently, another one of the ball and detent slip joints, 83mm blade should have given it away I suppose. 9052MTC-GH I particularly like the little bit of metal covering the place where the pocket clip swaps to for left side tip down carry. More knives should have this, including a cover or screws if you don’t want a pocket clip.
Yes! It looks really nice and I will maybe get one but I have already lots of tools on my keychains. Also I’m scared of this spring loaded breaking mechanism releasing on my leg while flexing…
For this I have already an utilikey. Not very effective and you can cut yourself but it get the job done in the need.
The 9052MTC-GH looks very similar to the ZB4-T21 but the later is smaller and much better looking IMO.
I have to say this black tactical color Real Steel T98 look awesome !
That why I don’t like these kind of tools, its always full of useless ineffective things and in real use you will ALWAYS use the main blade anyway (and corkscrew if you drink lots of wine). This thing is only an collector item to display.
You have to put a lot of pressure on the tool for it to release, if you’ve ever used an automatic centre punch then it’s only slightly less. I don’t think there’s much chance of it activating by accident.
I keep mine in my car, rubber banded to the gear lever, then it’s always in reach and separates easily for use.
I only really bought the 9052MTC-GH because it is a slip joint, I was surprised at the size and I also like the Real Steel T98, I settled for a Sanrenmu 7046LTE-LKR, smaller and without the black blade but just over a quarter of the price. The blade shape looks odd until you start using it, then it makes a lot of sense.
I have ordered the Sanrenmu ZB4-T21 I will see if the size is enough in use then I will also get the 7046LTE-LKR to test this interesting tanto design, both are so cheap anyway…
I received both and they are excellent ! The knifes are amazingly light and the small size make it very practical.
I love the ZB4-T21 the blade look very nice in black (they make the same in bare SS) and its razor sharp, the belt cutter is really useful but the can opener seem ineffective. The tanto one is something special but its original though I have horrible manufacturing marking on the blade and the shape is hard to use in most cases should be more useful for certain tasks.
Pleased you like them.
The belt cutter on my 9052MTC-GH, same tools as the ZB4-T21, was blunt as a rock but I sharpened it up O.K.
The shape of the blade on the tanto one is called a Besh Wedge and it’s designed so prying doesn’t break the tip off the blade, strong shape. the point where the tanto shape changes direction is ulra sharp on mine but I carry a couple of small pry-bars for levering.
