Self inflicted wounds .....the domino effect

How many times have your lights fallen over taking out your whole collection ..

Do your shelf queens have battle scars ??

Today one light took out 8.. ... I keep all of my 2xAA and 2AAA lights laying down ..

My A8 on the second shelf went to fall. With ninja like reflexes… My right hand shot out. Punching straight thru the glass shelf… One of my finer moments…

haha, that’s a good one, dale.

well, a good story anyway, since it probably didn’t feel too good.

I have this weird habit, left over (I guess) from playing soccer and hackysack 20 years ago.

if I drop something I automatically/instintively break its fall by ‘semi’ catching it with the top of my foot…or at least breaking its fall…

this has saved quite a few fragile things from certain destruction. warning, do NOT attempt this technique with a hot 230W soldering gun :Sp

Ouch... So you broke the glass?

Punched straight thru it

That reminds me of something...

I once saw a guy standing at a bus station, playing with his phone. Then he dropped the phone, and by trying to catch it with his foot, he accidentally kicked it on the street where it got run over by a car. It was so hard not to laugh.

I have the same instinct, though i’m not sure where i picked it up from

5" Cook's Knife - CIA Masters Collection Hyde Park

brand new kitchen knives , bare feet and hakisack don't mix .

Spinning this new knife in my hand while cooking and having a conversation wasn't the best idea ....it stuck in 1/8 thick linolium flooring over concrete between my big toe and toe #2..

Angels watching over my feet

haha, LUCKY!

I’ve started the ‘catch’ when dropping a knife only to jerk my foot out of the way hard enough to almost fall down. not sure why it didn’t click in my mind w/ the soldering iron.

I’ve never toppled my collection. But my modding bench can get pretty messy and I’ve caused a few cascades of parts that bring forth some very creative cursing.

I’ve decided (after ordering 3 through the mail and using one for non-flashlight stuff) that the next time I go to harborfreight I’m getting enough ‘aluminum’ cases for all my lights, and for a few other things, too.

I DID already drop a case, which put a nice dent in the aluminum along one edge…but I’m sure lucky I didn’t drop the ~$500 worth of stuff inside withOUT the case…

My first noncommercial light was the sipik sk68 and I used to knock that thing over on my glass desk several times an hour. Don’t know why, but I would always tailstand it… :stuck_out_tongue:

Thought because it was so cheap it might break, but that thing can hold up to some abuse!

I once had a co-worker instinctively ‘catch’ a rolling-for-the-floor Xacto knife between his knees. Three hours and five stitches later he came back from the hospital, easily the most embarrassed person on the continent.
It got even better when he checked his email; the boss had sent out a memo for everyone to check for the anti-roll nut on their knives

One of my own personal ’boo-boo’s was cutting frozen fish bait. My hand had gone numb, so i didn’t immediately notice that I had opened up the top of my thumb knuckle deep enough to see the tendons and other cool bits. Once things warmed up a bit, not so cool. I still have the C-shaped scar; I didn’t care much for stitches when I was younger.

Modding lights can be hazardous to your health, or at least your fingers...

that's nasty , Wayne

Edit : looks like a punch biopsy performed with a broken piece of glass tubing

The lathe gear train got hungry; sucked the ol' digit right in between two wheels.

It healed up surprisingly well, with a nice scar to remind me of my stupidity. The fun part was cleaning the heavy moly grease out of the ragged hole. :p

Hate those gouges that just hurt even after they heal. Taking a guess that Chicago’s might be one of those…

That really looks gross, Chi-X. Nice job!
Leaving a scar on the palm area is a challenge that you have now accomplished. Good work!

Dang, that looks painful. Cool pic though . . . thanks for thinking of us.

+1. You dont do things by halves.

My biggest problem is dropping batteries. lt hurts more than the usual papercut and you curse a lot longer as well.

Can I have a spoiler alert please.
Get a bit light headed with blood and deep holes in the body.

Going to lie down now - roll a torch between me hands to calm my eyes

X that looks nasty.
