Hi, I’m new here in the forum , I really need your help and expertise in lighting,
I live in Syria, as you may already know we have been under attack by those psychotic fanatics for the past 4 years…
These sick psychos are attacking gas pipelines and power stations, that’s why we have electricity problems all the time.
Lately, we had only 12 hours per day in my area - 3 hours on, 3 hours off (sometimes more or less) - yet it’s much better here in Damascus than other cities and towns…
I’m looking for a rechargeable light / lamp / lantern - whatever - with strong LED or other light (normal or solar), that charges fast (the faster the better) .
Will get something from Germany, my relatives will visit Syria next month (or months lol)…
I have these rechargeable emergency led lights, small AA cree LED flashlights, lanterns… but they are not enough, not much light… I need a powerful lighting that lasts for hours & hours…
What do you suggest for a rechargeable lantern/light/lamp with strong lighting ?? or even solar lights with fast charging ? what stores online - or offline ?!
I’d also get some decent solar panels and chargers that work with them. I have a goal zero with the battery pack which I can use to charge nimh batteries. I can also charge li-on batteries with it by plugging in my Miller ML102 to the battery pack (to supply a stable 5 volts).
The v7.1 Miller has issues but any charger that runs off a micro or mini connector would work.
This way you can charge batteries and other devices as long as there’s sun.
Solar is good if you can get a decent sized panel and use it to charge a deep cycle battery or two, but I guess it depends on your budget and what’s available
Although I’d probably be inclined to take advantage of the mains power your getting and fast charge as many car/lorry etc batteries I could lay my hands on, even old batteries will hold a decent reserve of power and can be very fast charged. You can then power lights charge smaller batteries, run a small 110/240 volt inverter etc when the mains power is off
You did come to the right place — people in here are some of the nicest people on Planet Earth. We could probably help you, but as the people commenting above, we need to know more about your situation — do you get any electricity, what voltage what plug design? Do you want a long throw light or a area flood light? Do you have a postal address? Do you have a PayPal account?
We all feel for the people of Syria, so, so, very sad — and for the children, just horrible. I am sure that we will be able to help, you.
And, Welcome to BLF, hope that we can find some way to aid you.
Power outage, :~ please send me some power outage
So, I would get myself several of these lights: Warsun H006, it’s not SUPER bright but it’s cheap and you can get 4-5 of them and get plenty of light.
For a charger I would go with Opus BTC-3100, a bit expensive option but you can set charging current up to 2A (I think) so even the largest capacity 18650 cells will be full in 2 hrs tops.
Batteries, I would go with largest capacity that you can squeeze to your budget 4 x NCR18650B would be my choice.
Choice of those “all in one” rechargeable lights is not that great and the quality is even worse, I would not buy them but if you like to DIY then it might be interesting option to modify them.
For this advice you can pay me with power outage
Because Syria is at 33 N Lat and is dry, I would expect that it gets a sunload similar to New Mexico in the USA. I suggest that you look at “shed lights” to provide solar charged lighting without the hassle or cost
Aliexpress carries them. They will probably ship direct to you.
Didn’t see a suggestion for a hobby charger so I’ll throw that in - fast serial charging in a balance charge cradle using some high capacity cells could be a good way to store up capacity off the main power. I’d think solar will mostly be for backup batteries/lighting rather than lights you intend to use during outages.
But with solar chargers you can actually be charging batteries during outages.
For 14500 or 18650 cells I don’t see where a hobby charger offers any advantages over a 4 or 8 bay charger. More complicated to use and not any faster unless the charge rate is bumped up.
I haven’t bothered to read all the posts, not out of disrespect but for the fact that I have flu and a high temp.
I do have some suggestions for you though which depend on budget. I live in the south of France and have a motorhome. When I bought it I fitted a 43w solar panel which connected to the secondary battery I also have an inverter but this is not necessary for you as LEDs will run from the battery.
A 43w panel and a small car battery should give you all the power you need.
I have been surprised that whilst using the laptop and charging power tool batts it always kept up easily and I would imagine you have easily as much sun where you are.
crap, I just received two of them. So if you leave the battery in, the charger overcharges it which ruins it and could be dangerous. It’s like nobody actually ran a test before mass producing this. Unbelieveable.
Well, I’m looking for area flood light (for indoor use mainly)… no need for more flashlights, I already have some cheapie AA flashlights (SK68 and similar), and nimh batteries with Energizer 1 hour charger, works good for me
Looking for something very bright & compact that covers wide area, that works for quite long time…
most people here are using lead-acid batteries with LED strip lights for lighting (SMD LEDs) like these >>>
while the lighting of the LED strips is great, working hours aren’t that long (except if you have more amps batteries which is higher in price), and I don’t trust those batteries, I’ve read that they are bad and not safe at all, in addition to the sulphuric acid fumes of lead-acid batteries…
the voltage is 220v here!
the dollar before war was almost 50 Syrian Pounds, now it is higher than 200 s.p. … everything here is 4 - 6 times or more higher now …
