I’m willing to bet it had a bad connection with the head off the body tube. The pill in the T50 is basically soldered to the body and you can break this solder connection and have issues, I have with mine, but if it’s together snugly mine works fine.

My guess is that some water left in the light caused a short somewhere. When dried up it worked again, just like the pre-smartphone Nokia's that were submerged: open it up, let dry for a week, put in a fresh battery and presto!

Just got the package and do I have some news for you! I decided just for the heck of it to drop a fresh battery in the UF and she functions perfectly. So it seems we will have two working lights to conduct the test on. Hope to do test fri or Sat and will post pics and results.

Wow! I am shocked! I tried both the power supply and 3 different 18650s. I just realized I did leave some batteries in those lights, so enjoy the new batteries mket. ;)

Have the same batteries been through the testing with these two lights the entire time? If so, no one tried a different battery until just now??

No, it killed one of my batteries. Sent to scaru without because 1) it’s about the lights not the batteries and 2) didn’t want any problems with the geniuses at the post office

Just tested it to answer your question and looks like I spoke too soon because it’s working again. Left the batteries in for everything except the two bakings and the boiling. After the second baking which was to dry both lights out and my final test, the battery I’d been using in the UF-T50 wouldn’t put out. Thought at first the light had died but popped in a new battery and it worked. My guess is all the water leaking into the UF-T50’s battery compartment eventually somehow took its toll but only temporarily. At least it didn’t pull a Boeing 787 Dreamliner at Shadow HQ

OK, here is the picture showing both lights working the day of the test.

Now what was strange once again as the t50 was working since I had gotten and it in fact was not the battery. Both batteries tested at 4.04 volts but something revived it. However, after taking this picture and getting ready for the oil dunk it knocked against the ZL and went out. Never to come back on! I could hear something rattling in the pill but to no avail would not work but continued anyway with all test.

I found no evidence of oil getting in. I used tape on the sc600’s lens which worked fine.

SC600 broke my small line about 50 to 75 ft in but T50 went about 300ft before coming off.


The SC600 was off when I picked it up and would not turn again. A few scratches and such but both lights took it well with no broken parts.

Both lights dirty but fine.
Now for second one I turned the lights 90 degrees

SC600 after being rolled over twice in two different positions. No crushing and everything was able to be unscrewed effortlessly.

The T50 on the other hand did not do as well

Side by side you can see the winner!

I am sorry the T50 got bent as I would have like to have seen it fixed and working again but now we know.
I want to thank The Shadow for allowing me to take part in this testing. Overall for what these lights went through I think either one would hold up well to normal use and minor mishaps.

Haha, fantastic thread and thanks to all who took part for their efforts in this.

I was really rooting for the T50 underdog but alas, as most people predicted, the SC600 kicked it’s butt in the final round.

Credit where it’s due, that SC600 is one tough light and can probably be brought right back to fully working with a touch of Old Lumens magic.

To make sure I understand correctly, the UF-T50 went out right before the oil dunking and the SC600 went out during the dragging?

look at the first roll over picture there and see the big rock under the T50. wonder if that had anything to do with it bending and failing ? Great work though to all the testers its been fun watching the demise.

I’m sure Old_lumens can work them out. I can see a short piece of flexible metal conduit on the t50 giving it a flexible head or something. Make a plug for the end of the battery tube and completly remote the head and pill - maybe a headlamp………
