significant difference - or not?

I have a Solarforce L2P with the Manafont XML 3-mode drop.

I was trying to compare the current drawn from two 18650 Trustfire Flame 2400 protected cells.

Cell 1 measured 4.1v and drew 2.45A = approx 10.04W

Cell 2 measured 3.98V and drew 2.8A = approx 11.14W

I measured the current over a period of 10 seconds - there are minor fluctuations so values above are my estimates of an average value over the period.

Apologies if this is a dumb question but is this what you would expect to see given such a small difference in the voltage measurements of the cells?

That is a fairly common occurrence to have a variation like that on a direct drive light. Try charging the batteries and taking the readings with two freshly charged batteries. Also try pushing the battery harder against the drop in and the amperage numbers should rise a little.

I get different reading with different batteries at different voltage.. That's the norm. There are a lot of variables when measuring Amps.

Many thanks E1320 - I'l dig out the charger and try again later this week.

One more question - If the dropin has a circuit board in the pill then I'm assuming this is to regulate the power to the LED - does this count as direct drive?

The circuit board is to regulate the PWN on low and medium, on high that 3 mode is direct drive.

Thanks again E1320 - you're a true gent. (You are a gent, right?)

Last time I checked.

I try not to assume too much, especially on the internet, even more so when I see you're pic is a gun! Embarassed

Hahahaha That’s a very ingenious answer xD
