I was perusing Gearbest and saw that they had the Sipik boxed sets [light, 18650 or 14500, and charger]. I was planning on buying a small stack of Trystfire Mini-01s as Christmas gifts, but might want to go with a few of these boxed sets as well/in-lieu. That is, as long as I’m not wasting money on a cell and charger that will need to be replaced before gifting anyway.
Also, it seems that Sipik use XP-E emitter for almost all their lights, is this correct? The modest output ratings make me optimistic, and a XP-E would be a great emitter for a zoomie because of the tiny die.
Pros
It looks like you get a Sipik branded cell and charger. Maybe it’s OK just because it’s vetted by Sipik. Maybe.
Cons
This 3200 mah cell seems to be priced (in the set) in the too good to be true category.
Is the cell protected?
Do you want to give li-ion cells to persons who may not understand the responsibility of the chemistry?
Will that same person try to charge a nimh cell in the charger?
The Mini-01 represents a safer choice if bundled with a lithium cell. Those cells tend to be pricey, but the muggles love the brightness of the Mini, sometimes without regard to the mpg. If they later progress to 16340 cells, they will hopefully have graduated from Hogwarts.
I would think it would depend on quantity and total budget. I am in the same boat with the X6 GB. I want to supply chargers and batteries also and have been on the hunt. I am piecing things together separately to achieve better choices. Some vendors will even supply gift boxes (upon request) but just think of the travel wear from the far east.
I agree that it sounds too good to be true, but I’m thinking it’s more in the “optimistic rating” [like the Trustfire cells that came with my X9] category than “pop-goes-the-weasle”. And I wouldn’t be giving it to anyone who didn’t understand the ramifications of li-ions. I actually have that SK98 set in a cart on GB right now, was just waiting on any solid ‘nays’ to take it out. I have an Opus 3100 coming in the mail tomorrow or Wednesday so I’d be able to check/confirm the cell safely.
RMM has the Xtar MC1 for less than $5. Add in a laptop-pack-pull cell re-wrapped in a bright color shrink tube and you’d have it comfortably under $30 a “set”.
