Skilhunt MIX 7 Gen 2 Plus & Mini Review & Beamshots Comparison

Hello everyone. Here’s my review on Skilhunt MIX 7 Gen 2 Plus & Mini Review & Beamshots Comparison between XP-G4 5700k and 519A 5000k. Thanks for a good place to share content. Please subscribe to my channel  .

Interestingly, in color strobe mode with mixing mode (the one that cycle though all colors automatically), the brightness is lower than normal mixing color group mode. So it technically possible to have more than 1 brightness level for that mode.

Thanks for the video. The UI is much improved compared to gen 1.

Looks to have a lot of improvements. However, click and hold to access RGB modes from off isn’t great for light painting photography. RGB lights are really more optimal with app control (such as the RGB Critter BT, and Aputure MC Pro).

I am not happy with this UI.

  • timing dependent actions (hold 0.5 sec, hold 1 sec, hold 2 sec) that are switching modes, not levels. Lets hope in the future we don’t see hold 2.5 sec, hold 3 sec, hold 3.5 sec lol.
  • a gesture, like 2C, behaving very differently in different contexts (sometimes goes to turbo … a level change, sometimes goes between RGB Color Group and Mix Color Group … a mode change.

I think this UI is dangerous in that many people will probably expose their eyes to harmful levels of UV by mistake. From off, hold goes from (0.5sec → low white) → (1sec → color) → (2sec → UV). I worry some people will be prone to look into the UV to clarify what’s happening, and if it’s off or low UV. Perhaps there should be a second channel of feedback indicating UV is on, like a blinking blue indicator in the switch etc.

Other things I’m not happy with is Click+Hold from Low, IMHO, should go to lowest main group (M2) otherwise it’s not any different than Click … wait … Click. That is a wasted opportunity.

Also I am (still) not fond of Low group being memorized. I want definite way of getting into the lowest mode.

Don’t want to sound overly critical - I like and use a few skilhunt products, but I would like to see them nail the basics first.

For light painting photography I may have to turn a light on and off multiple times during a long exposure, creating multiple light trails or illuminating objects. Anything other than single click or monetary on/off runs a high chance of making a mistake and having to start the long exposure photo again from scratch. Thus whilst optically this light may be great, the UI appears to be sub-optimal for this use case. I did ask for a review sample but didn’t get a response.
