I would like to change both the emitter and driver on my SR STL-V2.
I was able to unscrew the XML PCB, but cannot access the driver because the retaining ring holding it in will not unscrew. Anyone else have issues with this? I've tried using strap wrenches (which usually work), and even a vice grip. Nothing worked. My next step maybe heating the head to break any glue that may be holding it down.
I’ve heard that cold is often better to break joints than heat. My only other experience is with rusty bolts on the car, where I use freeze-off (freezing penetrating spray) and a butane torch alternately. Works pretty well, but probably not a good idea on a torch
My driver also broke when my cat dropped it on the floor. I skrewed everything off except the glued thread and driver and started to heat it up with a a gas stove. The driver burned and my flat stinked really bad for one month. Also the color of the anodizing changed from black to brownish bronze color. But finally the glue burned away and skrewed it off. I also decided to heat whole flashlights body to get an even color on it.
I ordered this driver for a replacement: http://kaidomain.com/product/details.S020121
One finnish guy says he has used it succesfully. Its a bit pricey, but it drives it a little harder and should be good quality.
