The Mountain Electronics modified Supfire M6, level one modified version, is excellent and in your price range even with shipping to GB I expect. PM the owner for shipping costs on it.
For a unmodified light the SecurityIng name brand version of the three LED SkyRay King light is good. It is the version of the light that Mountain Electronics is currently using as the base model for their modified SRK lights. Available on Amazon USA so check Amazon UK for availability.
Shipping from the USA to the UK is likely to be comically high, plus you’ll get stung for VAT and duty. That said it might still be an option.
And while accept some SRK’s and clones aren’t so good. I suspect most still pack a lot of lumens.
Op, I bought a Kung off eBay, the 4 XM-L2 one when they first came out. Cost about £30 I think and I’m impressed with it. The only thing I’d say is, it’s a little sharpe on some edges. And while it’s compact it’s chunky and a 4x18650 torch is very noticeable in your jacket pocket. I also find the side switch activates way too easily when in your pocket. Although it does have lockout.
The only thing I’d say is however. NW emitters are SO much better outside in the countryside than CW ones. But it’s hard to get lights like this in NW.
I note the link in post #6 is at the higher end of the price range for SRK clones. At that price I would go for the Fandyfire three LED unit which is reportedly the clone which most closely matches the original SkyRay King lights from their original introduction before multiple cloners started trying to cheapen them as much as possible.
If you are happy paying the prices from Mountain Electronics, then it will likely give you the best. But be warned, shipping can be silly from the US. Expect to pay almost as much for shipping as for the light, then add on 20% VAT and £8-10 duty on top of that.
Re: the ones in your link. I suspect they will all “wow” if you have nothing like them now. And sometimes you can just spend too long trying to find the best or perfect one.
That said, I’d have thought a 7 LED one will be more flood and less throw than some. A 3 or 4 LED will have larger reflectors and offer more throw and still a lot of light. This might be important out in the fields.
Remember you’ll want some half decent batteries to run in a light like this and they’ll need to be matching batteries.
What about a fandyfire warrior? I see no one has mentioned one so far….
Ramping type driver standard makes this light pretty cool to me. Also can’t switch it on accidentally….
NW - Neutral white.
CW- cool white.
As with most srk’s,warrior standard is cool white…
I favor either of the Fandyfire units as the internal details of current so called SkyRay King lights have become too unpredictable and I got bitten by one with bad internal construction details, a internal thermal transfer disaster unit. When buying a SkyRay King so called unit the construction details and quality have become totally unpredictable. Why I mentioned the Securitying versions of the light earlier in the thread. I have the YL-U2 unit and it is enough skinnier than the regular SRK size light to make it more comfortable to carry with it holding three batteries rather than four.
I have bought a couple dozen different SRK’s and it’s just gotten worse and worse as far as consistency. Unless you call getting worse and worse consistent. Even buying from the same place will often get you less of a light. It’s also not even the driver being bad it’s the non-existent pills that they put in them now. They often have no pill at all just a thin aluminum shelf that the emitters are on and sometimes that isn’t even big enough to touch the sides of the light. So on these there is no heatsinking or heat transfer at all. Even if they had a halfway decent driver the thermal sag would have the lumens down to half or less in no time at all and it would kill the emitters eventually.
I would go with one from RMM or put a wanted ad out here for a modded one. Shipping isn’t that stupid and they will probably ship it as a gift and mark the price low for you. Right now you could buy six of these from six different sellers and not be guaranteed a good one.
Why I suggested the 3 LED Securitying in an earlier post here. Per RMM that is so far a consistent light and the one he is currently using for his customized SRKs. The one I bought on Amazon is the same as the ones RMM has been receiving. He opened it up and verified that. Also per a question I posted here some time back the Fandyfire marked SRK versions are supposed to be good quality and consistent and closest internally to the original design lights. Fandyfire is one of the brands actually manufactured by Black Shadow, the original designer and first manufacturer of the SRK light. Hopefully that means something.
Good information. I know I have had good luck with Fandyfire but that was some time ago. On the Securitying I don’t know about that seller but I have had some from other sellers without a pill. That really is the worst that I have seen. Not only no pill but the star wasn’t even a full size star so it wasn’t even sitting on the shelf.
And yep, Fandyfire=blackshadow. Same company same lights and usually really good quality.
In post 14 I mentioned getting one of those thermal disaster lights with the LED mounting plate not even touching the light body. RMM posted a picture of the internals on it for his customers edification. |( A total POS IMO. I have gone back and given the light a one star review which mentions the seller by name, something few Amazon reviews seem to do even though sometimes there are 20 sellers using one product listing, some good and some bad.
The black SRK that Fasttech sells has no pill, and they advertise it as “the most genuine available” whatever you do don’t buy one of these it is the worst cheap fake SRK out there and Fasttech should be ashamed to sell it.
