High CRI may not be that critical for throwers (or semi-throwers like IF19), and lower CRI LEDs have usually higher outputs which helps, but what are the options anyways? I understand that there is a new SFT40? at 3000K that people tired? Are there any options that are throwy, semi-high CRI and a little whiter than that? Are there already flashlights that use them or that would require modding?
If you consider 18650 small enough, or 18350:
Emisar D1 w 719a or DeDomed 519a, in your choice of color temperature.
The FFL351A is a domeless high CRI emitter that comes in as high as 5000K. The one next to it, the FFL505A, is available in 6500K, still high CRI, and even throwier despite the larger footprint.
Would there be any flashlights already using that with an appropriately throwy optics?
Based on the cd reported in the link, dedomed 519a may not be that throwy - I can’t seen 719a, is that Nichia? There is a list of LEDs there - would it mean that the rest would be low CRI?
p.s. Ok, there is 719a in choices but not in the specs list. Can you briefly describe it (say compared to 519a)?
p.s.s. So the XHP70.3 HI 90CRI 5000K wouldn’t be such a good idea for this light?
719a 4000K is featured in the Zebralight SC65c Hi, it is a throwy High CRI Nichia
How small is small? (Bezel diameter) How throwy is throwy? (Cd/lumen)
Bezel size doesn’t matter that much, but I was hoping for the 18350 or 18650 battery. The only thrower I’m familiar with is the Sofirn IF19 which is probably around 35 cd/lm, which is fine - a little throwier wouldn’t hurt from the hindsight, but I don’t think I’d be too fond of a pencil like laser pointer beam.
Maybe Emisar has lights using this emitter, but I am not very familiar with lights using this emitter. It has a standard 3535 footprint though, so if you can solder then it is compatible with many lights.
Lower CRI and lower efficiency–I would not recommend. For 4000K/below a dedomed 519A is better, for CCTs above the FFL LEDs are better. Equal or greater output/throw with higher CRI.
Having used both, 519A and 719A, I would rather go with a B35AM which is what I currently EDC.
But for a thrower I wouldn’t use any of these emitters.
The 5000K SFT-40 isn’t high CRI but the tint is very neutral and it doesn’t wash colours out like the cooler ones. One of those in a Convoy S6 throws well.
Are there any graphs that compare the output of the SFT40 5000K vs. 6500k LEDs vs. the current, or maybe some other comparisons of the two?
@Weerapat_K compared the two LEDs in this video. Why the 5000K appears not to be that popular amongst the light manufacturers?
