This is what happened when I put my eneloops in a portable camping shower holder the wrong way.
I was using aa to d converters with no markings; so I guessed; a very loud pop and smoke ensued.
Before I even got the lid closed.

Wow, that does not look good. And here I thought eneloops were indestructible! Well for the most part I think they are (at least compared to other brands), but I guess everything has limitations.
What exactly is the portable camping shower holder and aa to d converter. Just can’t visualize it. Someone may have to draw me a picture.
Not sure what a camping shower holder is, but here is an AA to D adapter. You take 3 AA cells and make a single D cell out of them.
So the voltage would remain 1.2 volts?
Both kinds are available: those that keep voltage at 1.2 volt, and those that link the cells up in series, making them 3.6 volt.
But if the OP is talking about an AA to D adapter, then it would need to remain at 1.2V.
The voltage depends on whether the battery adapter is in series or parallel. Parallel keeps voltage at 1.5 (or 1.2 for rechargeables) and series adds up the total, 3x1.5=4.5 volts.
Whole story; put them in the holders in series and it didn’t work, sooo I thought I would try parallel and the result is what happens when the brain is out of gear.
