You don’t.
Just like Drupal, threads read from left to right, top to bottom.
i thought there was some non-intuitive way to do it, permanently
i don;t want to scroll through 200 things i already read, just to see some new reply
There’s a blue scroll bar on the right that allows you to quickly scroll to the bottom of the thread.
Once you see a post on Discourse, it remembers that you’ve seen it, so you only have to do it once per thread.
I realize it’s not ideal, but it’s the best we have, according to sb.
There are two different ways to go to the last post of a thread from the list of threads.
You can click on the number of replies in the thread, and you’ll be given two choices: the first post and the last.
You can click on the “time” of the last post, like “5m” for five minutes ago, to go to the last post.
Also, in the OP, there’s a link to the “last reply.”
Hi there, this will only be a temporary inconvenience the first time you read through a long thread that was imported from the old forum. Also you can use @raccoon 's tip to jump straight to the last post. After that it will take you directly to the last and/or newest post the next time you enter the thread.
wle, are you looking for something like the “newest posts” button on old BLF? So that all forum posts are sorted by most recent to oldest? That should be the default.
Right now for me, the forum posts are barely visible at the page bottom, once I get down there they are sorted already in that manner.
Hey there Couchmaster, I understood that he’s referring to viewing the posts in a single thread in reverse order.
right - looking at one topic, i want the newest ones first
Hi @wle, that’s not possible. But I also think that it won’t be necessary either after a short time of normal forum usage, as described here:
There are some really huge and extremely active forums online running on Discourse now, and many of them were migrated from a more traditional forum. So it’s definitely covering all the fundamental needs for forum usage, even for very heavy forum users that want to keep up with everything that’s going on.
When I first started using Discourse, I really disliked it.
Now that I’m used to it, and know a number of tips for using it, I like it more than Drupal.
I know that the beginning of using Discourse isn’t fun, but eventually it should get better.
Turn the monitor upside down:)
Problem solved.
Ha!
Actually, with Windows, there’s an option to do that without turning your monitor upside down.
It’s not a practical solution, but it is a silly option.
Ctrl + Alt +Down (may or may not work, does no my Windows 10)
dn + ʇlɐ + lɹʇɔ :ʞɔɐq ʇı dılɟ oʇ
Hmm…
I was talking about “Display options”
You can choose “Display orientation” to be “Landscape flipped”
(It’s not a good idea, though.)
Yes, I understood, I was just adding to your joke that there’s even a simple Windows shortcut for it. However, it may not work on all computers it seems; works on my Win 10 laptop but not my Win 11 one.
By the way, with Georgia font, “dn” and “up” change their meaning completely when upside down.
(Oh, it’s the same with the default font (Ubuntu) as well.)
