So, I built another thrower - unintentionally

After I have done my errands today, I find my LEDs from Int’l Outdoor arrived in the mail. Modding time!

The first thing to be built was an MT-G2 light in a Dipper D19 (Convoy L2 clone). I resistor modded the driver to give me a theoretical 5.6A, did the usual braiding, Arctic Silver 5 the Noctigon and put everything together.

Nada. There was no light.

Thinking I may have killed an expensive LED, I tested the MT-G2 in a Yezl Y3 and it works. What doesn’t work is a MT-G2 and LD-29 combo.

At this stage, I just wanted light to come out of this host. So I decided to get an XP-G2 R5 3C and whack it in there. There was light alright. I also couldn’t be bothered dedoming the XP-G2 and I was going for a balance of throw and bright light.

I did quick tailcap readings and I get around 4A on high. This compares to my L2 which has a dedomed XM-L2 with a resistor modded LD-29 doing 3.8A at the tailcap.

Am I happy with the outcome? Yes and no. It’s nice to see a well driven XP-G2 that is bright and throws really well. However, this host was meant to have an MT-G2. I might man up and get myself the BLFDD MT-G2 driver and rebuild the host with those components.

LD-29 is one of those odd buck(?) drivers known to have an output voltage limit too low to run a MTG2, no matter the input voltage. :(
