When I first started using this site everyone raved about Convoy and like any sensible chap I listened and purchased an S2+ and a C8. They were indeed fine lights.
What’s the deal with the rest of the range though? I notice that one or two people say they EDC the M1 and people seem as pleased as punch that the L2 is coming back. The thing is the you can find very little in the reviews on Simon’s range of lights and I really would like to know more about them. YouTube is a deadzone and even this site seems light on detail. Could some of you owners of his other lights care to come forward with some information or at least links to solid reviews?
There have been quite a few reviews on Convoy lights. Many of them were a ways in the past, but typically Simon just updates little things like XM-L to XM-L2, etc, so the old reviews are still mostly true. Is there a particular model that you want more info on?
The BD flashlights are the only convoy that I would probably avoid. They aren’t quite up to Convoy quality imho. The S2+ UV I don’t know enough about to say one way or the other… The rest of the lineup you can’t go wrong with.
I have several of the “S” and “M” variants (although none of the BD series) and have found them to be sturdy, reliable, no nonsense lights. They are excellent value for the price, and generally very easy to mod if you so choose. I’ve never had one give a moments trouble.
Sort of on the same topic, does anyone know the logic behind the naming scheme? I own several convoys - S2+, S6, C8, F8…I think that’s all, but I have no idea if there’s some meaning to those designations. I also know other makers use them too, like this Thorfire C8 I also own. Is there some meaning here? Are they “standard” designs that anyone can build? Who comes up with them?
