So...Where's the 21700 forum category?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but lets review the math….it appears that cars, power tools, e-bikes and scooters, nasty vaping equipment, and yes the lowly flashlight are all headed toward 21700 batteries (pretty much the entire world). Its so much so that Tesla/Panasonic can’t meet anticipated 21700 demand, and they are trying to reach agreements with other manufacturers to help with supply. From what I understand 18650 production lines are being converted over to 21700. The writing is on the wall for the 18650, and it may well be that 18650s become more expensive than 21700s rather quickly just due to changing production volumes.

So, Why is there no dedicated forum for 21700? What are the new 21700 lights, and timeline for release?…and which ones are good? Who is making good 21700 batteries and who is making junk? What chargers accept the longest 21700 cells and which chargers fall short? Did I miss the 21700 section somewhere? Thanks in advance.

Well, a lot of that information is indeed available on this site, just no dedicated section has been made AFAIK. To start, there have been several 21700 lights made in the last year or two. They still aren’t the main form factor here yet, but as you said, it is heading that direction. To find who is making good 21700 batteries, look at the numerous reviews from HKJ. He does a very thorough job of testing/analyzing the cells, and has covered several different 21700 and a couple 20700 cells lately. Chargers have come on the market that offer a high enough charge rate and long enough carriers for 21700 cells. You can simply read the descriptions of the newest chargers and decide for yourself what brand(s) you like. HKJ has also reviewed some of them.

I own a few 21700 flashlights on the market. While I agree that the 21700 will be implemented in replacement of 18650. There will be problems because 21700 have not really caught on with everyone. Especially, flashlight/Vapor market. Most of the major flashlight companies encompass 18650, 26650, 14500, 16430, CR123A. These are WAY MORE common in flashlight market. The regular mainline configurations of AAA, AA, C, D are catered to mainstream retail type of flashlights.

BTW, I will be posting review of a 21700 flashlight very soon.

The manufacturers can safely introduce 21700 flashlights to the market, and people will buy them. There are already a lot of cheap flashlights that have a tube made to support either a 3xAAA holder or a 18650 cell. Most of those tubes will already support a 21700 cell by default. No change needed. Others might just need slight modification. Or a 18650/21700 sized flashlight can be made and people could opt to use 18650 until they get 21700 cells.

my current stocks of 18650 will last at least a decade lol

but I guess flashlight enthusiasts hardly buy based on practicality, so I guess 26650 is out and 21700 is in simply based on tesla’s domination.

Just wondering if LiitoKala Lii-500 can charge 21700, it can charge 26650….

Nope. 18650, and 26650 still command market. Heck even 14500 are rising up.

A few examples of lights released in 18650 : Olight Warrior X 2000 lumen, Sofirn, Wuben, Klarus, Fenix, Thrunite, etc…

26650 : Sofirn, Olight, Thrunite, Fenix, etc….

Same goes for 14500 based flashlights.
