【Sofirn SC13 Copper Shell】Would you be interested in the copper SC13?

Hello fellow BLF members!

We’re currently exploring the idea of creating a custom copper shell for the SC13 and would love to know if this is something you’d be interested in.

Right now, there are three versions of the SC13 under discussion, and we’d appreciate your input on which LED and UI option you prefer. If enough people show interest, we’ll finalize a version and proceed with the copper SC13 project.

Of course, if you have ideas for customizing other models, feel free to comment on this thread—let’s see which one gets the most demand!

Below are some AI-generated previews (by a flashlight enthusiast in our FB group using ChatGPT) showing how the SC13 might look in different material finishes.

Here are the parameter charts for the three different versions of our SC13:

Solid copper or brass yes. Plated or painted no.

Solid copper or brass, of course.

Copper would be nice, but I love the shape of the bezel (instead of the groove for the clip)!

Hi @Barry0892, thanks for asking.

UI: Anduril, of course. Please don’t forget to use a relatively modern MCU (eg, AT1616 or AVR32DD20) and have easily accessible flashing pads (in the +/-/S @gchart layout);

LED: no SST40 please, either 519A (with different CCTs besides 5000K) all the way, or replace the SST40 with a similar but better LED (eg, SFT40);

Battery: I’m not a big fan of 18350s, so please make sure to also offer an extension tube for 18650;

USB: have powerbank functionality; doesn’t make sense for 18350s, but would with 18650 and the extension tube I mentioned above; also please make sure to place the port under its the rubber boot cover, not besides it (unlike in the picture generated by ChatGPT – duh);

Material: please just raw copper, not good IMO to anodize/plate it.

I 100% agree!

I know this is obviously an AI generated image made to illustrate the idea, but the head design on this one, without the clip attachment groove, actually looks cleaner than the original SC13. Making these changes in the design probably wouldn’t be practical but it would look much nicer. Another thing that the AI nailed was the switch rubber cap design, looks very similar to what Lumintop used in the GT micro and GT nano (V1). A glossy black retaining ring for the switch rubber cap with the smoked rubber cap (translucent, without the dot on the center) would look clean as hell.

Edit: Bronze is another metal that doesn’t get much attention, but it looks very nice. Not sure how harder to machine it is than brass or copper though.

Here’s an example, it looks more brown than brass.

Esp if it is screwed and not glued or pressfit :eyes:

Edit: and the clip between body and bezel, similar to how lumintop has them on the FW series between body and tailcap.

Ideally made in a way that the bezel can be screwed with and without the clip.

I was wondering about an SC13 with a regulated driver and thought a while back that there was a SC13 Pro being designed, is there any news on this? I like the idea of one made of copper.

Exotic materials SC13 is quite exciting! I’d definitely have to say SC13A version with Anduril and high CRI is the way to go.

Given it’s size, I believe some additional things need to be addressed. I see it in the AI generated art but there should be a raised edge or bevel around the button to prevent accidental turning on. I’m not sure if the lens has a glass layer but an additional protective lens would be a good idea. The SC13 is so tiny and fun to play with in my fingers. It’s bound to drop a couple of times…

Definitely … CU … RAW Noncoated … :beers:

If we decide to do it, we will upload pictures of the specific materials here for everyone to see.

Thank you for your reminder. We will pay attention to the points you mentioned.

No

Solid, raw copper … no clip attached … I’m in !

Any finish is fine but Heaven Forbid…No Preflash!
Heads will explode :slight_smile:

On a serious note, Brass would be cool, really just more finishes the merrier.

Special attention to “NO CLIP ATTACHED”

Could you tell me your reasons?

I want my raw copper lights to be flawless.
Installing and removing pocket clips from raw copper scratches the light.

Yes, I have a method to avoid the damage, but why risk scratches when it isn’t necessary.

To each his own …
This is MY preference.
