SC13 is probably one of the light that is the least moddable but given the 9,99$ sale price I decided to give it a go. I picked up three of them on the spring sale.
While figuring out how would I get to the MCPCB I totally destroyed the bezel outer lip, so I went with a more destructive method. I grabbed a triangular metal file and went to town making a notch in the bezel in two spots until I was able to fold it and take it out. Since the host now had notched in it I ground it down till only the part where clip sits remained.
With that done I took out the SST40 (not without getting the phospohor off it for a bit of fun) and threw in a LHP531 6500K in there I had left over. I modeled out a bezel for a 20mm TIR that slides onto the recessed groove where clip would sit.
I modeled it a little short and of course my printer had to permanently clog after this print lol.
Comparision, modded left and stock right. The SST40 is definitely colder has typical domed spot which gets colder towards the outer edge and with the fresnel optic a set of rings. Modded has a really nice beam with no noticable artifacts, definitely floodier.
SST40 on high takes around 1A with fully charged battery and turbo around 3A. LHP531 takes around 1,5A on high and around 4A on turbo. Turbo values might be higher since I measured it with multimeter leads and not a clamp meter with some thicker wire.
I’m planing on swapping the other two with C50 colored 5050 emitters I ordered from Kaidomain. The driver should run them within the specified 3A 10W rating given the currents measured with SST40. Although I worry that the red one might be tricky with it’s low Vf seeing that it affects the current on low medium high modes.
I think that the Anduril driver could be interesting if swapped with the 5050 MCPCB with the LHP and some higher drain 18350, if it is similiar to TS10 driver.
