The bezel on the new version is easy to open up with a strap wrench. I couldn’t ever get the old version to budge .

The UI needs improvement, nothing fancy just simple shortcuts to low, turbo and strobe would suffice.

All in all it’s a great gift light.

The UI is just fine for the intended user … your mom

Considering that it comes with usb charging and bat this light is cheaper than a convoy s2+ Or clones once you add in those costs

And is more user friendly overall when you consider they dont need to take out the bat and plug it into the charger

If the reliability holds up as well as sofirns CS then its fair to say that this light would be yardstick against which all simple sub $20 dollars 18650 lights should be judged against

Not to mention there no big purple halo around the beam like my s2+

I should receive my SC31B in two days.

I also would prefer direct access to low from off, but couldn’t pass up the Sofirn combo price for the SC31B.

Just thought I’d add that the SC31B lumens tested on High are no greater than ~~760~~ 840 at turn on and ~~720~~ 815 at 30 seconds. This is the cool white version. The 4000K version would be even lower

Modes are Eco, Low, Med, High

Measurements taken a a PVC lumen tube calibrated with maukka lights. Battery used was a Samsung 30Q

Has a firmware bug currently where turning off on Medium switches back on High

Yet again another overrated flashlight from Sofirn. They used to be almost spot on when they first began.

EDIT: cleaned, re-calibrated my equipment and used a new 30Q for the new lumen measurements above.

Very few know it’s 700 lumens. It’s good to actually know what you’re buying so you know a genuinely rated light at 1000 lumens is a better upgrade in the future.

I’m trying to do my best fighting a marketplace filled with fake ratings. I’m probably one of the few store owners in the world that sell lights at their true rating.

Maybe you should “go after” convoy for their RECURRING biscotti issue that bins the light into a single mode group

Now THAT is a real firmware issue for the last 3 years, yet convoy keeps selling lights with the issue

The thread you linked to has my video actually showing the test of the step down and lumens lol so that must mean I own one. I also sell them.

I love the Sofirn lights, I sell almost every model but I’m still going to test and post the results.

I’ve heard about that issue on the Convoy’s yet I’ve built and sold over a hundred flashlights using that driver and haven’t seen it myself. Just like ToyKeeper says that it happens randomly on some but not all.

Theres been 3+ instances of newly bought s2+ on here and reddit in the past 2 months having this issue

Why do you have such a sour attitude? I’m only reporting my tests. How is it different than a review on pros and cons?

You sound like a Sofirn fan boy that can’t handle hearing a little criticism.

Maukka posted that his 3B tint was likely a 4C by mistake which tested 720 lumens on my same light. The Cool white variant tested at 860 - 900 lumens on mine which varied between different builds.

I report on Convoy, Astrolux, BLF among others just the same. I sell heaps of brands.

BearBreeder I agree the lumen wars are pointless and there’s little real-world value in the 700 lumens vs 1000 lumens. Having said that, it’s valuable for people to know what they’re getting and how a given company’s claims stack up objectively. No need to sling mud at other companies though.

Funtastic Thanks for measuring and reporting, especially since most people have no way to verify the lumen claims.

Yr lumens measurements dont really matter too much for real word usage

What DOES matter is the actual graph itself (regulated or not) and actual runtimes

And testing for LVP, and making sure the charger terminates properly and doesnt trickle

This vid matters much more than a test tube number

Its amazing how certain companies get a pass here

Convoy for their biscotti issue, and their “send you a driver” warranty fix

Or astrolux with their lack of warranty after a month or two

Quite a few on BLF have the same test equipment sold by Texas Ace and their numbers are very close. Same goes for Matt’s who’s recent equipment tested almost the same.

It doesn’t matter what light they’ve tested, it’s all the same because it’s properly calibrated. If I wasn’t confident in my test numbers it wouldn’t make sense to sell my lights below the stated rating.

You could jump on over to Maukka’s thread and inquire from the one who sells the calibration lights.

Note that the difference matters much in the real world, you can see in the vid above that the sc31b is quite close to the sp31v2

The SC31B has a much tighter beam so it throws similar to the SP31 but doesn’t have the same spill
