SolarStorm SP02

My recent purchase of the Solarstorm SP02 is one of the best buys I have made…… At around $39.00 it is well worth the money. I recently modded it by adding a dd 17mm ramping driver (easily pushing ~5.2-5 amps with IMR’s) and an XHP70 P2 from Mtn elec. *special thanks to vestureofblood for the dd driver technology

Anyway, I could elaborate on the mod (which I probably will in a later post cuz I changed the driver out to a CC/CV driver and want to tell about the difference) but I wont in this post. My focus here is on the solarstorm.

I want to express the fact that I am extremely impressed with the overall quality of this light. Everything from the threads to the distance between internal components to the excellent finish is in my opinion unmatched in anything else in its price range. Matter of fact I havent seen a light in the sub $100.00 class that is equal.

The trapazoid cut threads screw together mating components with less than .001” gap error giving a perfectly smooth mechanical operation. The reflector is unblemished with a heavy chrome finish, o-rings are high quality silicone.

If you are looking to build a super high quality mod then this is your host. The beam is consistent with typical XHP70 flood but precisely placing the dome in the reflector sweet spot yields OP type dispersion from a Smooth reflector.

If there is a better flashlight out there for the money, someone please tell me about it!

Awesome to read.
Ive been looking at this light for a mod host, need a dual 18650 light with an large reflector.

Do you have some pic’s of the inside? In particular the pill and the driver pocket.
What size mcpcb and driver does it uses?
How does it manage the heat from the XHP70?

One more thing, I hate you!
Now I really want it!
