If possible, I am wondering if you would be willing and able to mod another HS21 and, in addition to the high CRI spot, also change the red LED to a deep red. If so, what would you charge for the procedure?
Thanks for your contributions to this community and for any brain/manpower devoted to this inquiry ahead of time
no
but you could try asking Adair21 or ArtieT59, or also skylumen.com
On the remotely related matter: I wonder if anybody has changed the main emitter to the SFT40 5000 K and how it actually looks?
I and others were quick to point out the discrepancy between the CCT of the Spot and Flood emitters, but I now wonder if this wasn’t a good design choice after I’ve used the headlamp for a while.
Thanks. Will do. I love the headlamp, but I regularly use red and that’s really my only gripe. I am able to solder, but I’ve never done anything with LEDs. How would you rate the difficulty of teardown and reassembly of the HS21?
its relatively easy to open and modify, you can see a couple of pics in this post:
I did not look into where to source the type of Red LEDs the HS21 uses:
the product page says:
Emitter: 1 * SFT40 6000K-6500K LED, 6 * CSP1919 5000K LEDs , 3 * HFL1-R red LEDs
if you decide to tool up to be able to reflow new LEDs, you will need a hotplate and some supplies:
here are links:
tacky flux (to help u solder and resolder the wires)
thermal paste (goes on the shelf of the light, under the mcpcb)
solder paste (goes on the mcpcb, under the LED for reflowing)
hotplate, fixed temp 260C
And to introduce you to the process of modding, here is a pictorial showing the steps and supplies to change an LED in a different light.
Awesome thanks. I think I’ll give it a go. If I end up with no red, it won’t be the end of the world.
Jon,
Will you be making another of these of the same mod?
no
