Hey lads i took these pics for BLF i thought it was interesting and a few people might like them.
This is probably the start of our journey although not portable i think a few reflector and optics designs came from lighthouses or where first used in this application. I wouldn’t be surprised if a few of the higher powered lights are brighter then lighthouses lol.
This light house is on the North Coast of NSW at Norah head i was fishing around here. Lighthouses are a thing of the past if your on the mainland coast. I live next to the main port of Sydney and now its all done by radar and sonar no real need for lighthouses. With GPS mapping they will soon become a thing of the past.
I will make the pics smaller when Flickr lets me crop them.

I was trying to edit this pic so you can read the info easier but the program is offline right now Flickr is upgrading it. So for now just click the image and zoom in. Apparently this light was a game changer.

If you zoom in you can see the optics in the light house it was a really sunny day.
Until GPS goes down…
Or gets spoofed…
Or until any number of Bad Things™ might happen.
I always loved lighthouses, and even tried signing up to be a lighthouse-keeper. LHs are getting fewer and farther-between as they’re being shuttered, and other than historic LHs, there’s little need anymore for dedicated LHKs.
Used to be that for a small stipend, you could live in the LH, do routine maintenance, etc., and of course keep the bugger lit. My kind of job…
(Well, as long as Wm Blake and the rest of the crew of the Elizabeth Dane don’t try to kill me or anything…)
Here we have one for ya lol. I guess back in the days people got paid to be a light house keeper?
I think for the most part now days it would be easier to set up a light house. Get a LED setup and a PC and its all automatic. You can remote monitor the the light house.
