SPERAS EST PLUS V3: SFT42R Round-Die Thrower (167.9kcd / 820m Tested by 1Lumen) + September Special: Free EST MIC

Hello BLF members and fellow flashlight enthusiasts!

This is the official SPERAS team here. We are excited to introduce our latest upgraded, high-performance flashlight to the community.: SPERAS EST PLUS V3.

Many of you are familiar with the previous V2 version (which ran the Luminus SFT40). For the V3, our engineering goal was simple: push long-range intensity and beam consistency significantly further within a compact, duty-capable 21700 form factor without sacrificing practical spill.

To achieve this, we upgraded the core engine to the Luminus SFT42R Round-Die LED.

Why the SFT42R Round-Die?
Unlike traditional square-die emitters, the circular emitting surface of the SFT42R matches our deep, smooth (SMO) aluminum reflector with exceptional optical symmetry:

Flawless Hotspot: Delivers a concentrated, perfectly round center dot with a smooth corona and virtually no optical ring artifacts.

Punchy Throw: Concentrates maximum candela right into the core of the beam.

Cleaner Cool White Tint: While SFT40 lights are notorious for having noticeable green tint on lower modes, the SFT42R in the V3 tests with far less green shift.

Independent Verification by 1Lumen.com
We recently sent a production sample to the team at 1Lumen for independent testing. Rather than asking you to take our factory specs at face value, here are the real-world numbers measured by 1Lumen:

Turn-On Output: 3,002 Lumens (Factory rated: 3,000 lm)

ANSI FL1 Output (30s): 2,783 Lumens

Peak Turbo Intensity (30s): 167,900 cd / 820 meters (Exceeded our 160,000 cd / 800m factory rating!)

High Mode Intensity: 97,300 cd / 624 meters (Factory rated: 80,000 cd / 566m)

CCT & Tint (Opple Light Master IV @ 10m):

Turbo: 5,420K (Duv: +0.0012)

High: 5,724K (Duv: +0.0018)

Med: 5,746K (Duv: +0.0041)

Low: 5,693K (Duv: +0.0036)

Verdict: Extremely close to the BBL with minimal chromatic aberration across all brightness levels.

PWM: Zero visible PWM.

UI & Dual-Switch Operation
We designed the UI around a tactical forward-clicky tail switch paired with an electronic side switch:

Forward Tail Switch: Dedicated strictly to main power. Supports momentary-on (half-press) in the last-memorized mode, and full-click for constant-on.

Side E-Switch: Handles mode cycling and instant shortcuts:

Click from ON: Cycles through ECO → Low → Med → High → Turbo.

Press & Hold from ON (0.5s): Instant access to Turbo. Releasing returns to the previous level.

Direct Shortcut to ECO: From OFF, hold the side switch down while clicking the tail switch.

Double Click from ON: Activates Strobe; double-click again for SOS.

Mode Memory: Remembers the last used brightness setting, including Turbo.

A Note on Lockout: The EST PLUS V3 does not feature an electronic lockout sequence. However, thanks to clean, square-cut anodized threads, a slight quarter-turn of the tailcap breaks electrical contact for complete physical lockout during transport.

Battery, Charging & Build Quality
Battery: Comes standard with a customized SPERAS 40A HDC 21700 5000mAh high-drain lithium-ion cell (flat-top, unbuttoned).

Onboard Charging: Integrated USB Type-C port under an ergonomic protective rubber collar. Supports standard USB-C to USB-C charging (5V/1.2A, fully charged in ~4h 20m).

Chassis: CNC-machined from 6061-T6 aerospace aluminum with a matte Type III hard-anodized black finish (fingerprint-resistant).

Dimensions & Weight: 140 mm (L) × 40 mm (Head Dia.) × 26 mm (Tube Dia.); 111g bare weight, 180g with the included 21700 cell installed.

Ingress & Impact: IP68 certified (submersible up to 2 meters) and 1.5m impact resistant.

3 Thanks

That’s a really weird-looking SFT42R, and I wonder where they got it from.

Notice that 2 of the 4 pairs of bond wires are pointing in some weird direction, while in SFT42R’s datasheet (and all my samples) all the bond wires are parallel.

1 Thank

A problem with this light and many of the newest Speras lights is that they’re still using FET drivers. My PZ14 also came apart internally in less than two weeks of minimal use. The led retaining ring came loose inside. The lack of quality control and inefficient drivers is keeping me away from Speras.

No regulation, no go! Otherwise, I’d be totally tempted!

2 Thanks

We have received your feedback. We will certainly discuss this with our design and development teams, striving to provide a better shopping experience for our users.

I’m quite happy with the two Speras lights I have so far (PZ14 and EST SE), and look forward to buying more Speras lights in the future.

Both my Speras lights have great build quality and extremely impressive output and throw for their size. They also feel great in the hand.

However, like all lights, there’s always something that could be improved:

  • On one of my PZ14s, the black centering disk around the LED came loose. This happened because the bezel retaining ring wasn’t tightened enough at the factory or had come loose with use. This caused a gap to form between the retaining ring and the centering disk. Due to this gap, the only thing holding the centering disk on was friction on the sides of the led, which wasn’t enough when the led got hot.
  • Fortunately, the light was not glued so fixing the problem took only a couple minutes (unscrew bezel, remove retaining ring, move centering ring back into the correction position around the led, reassemble).
  • Consider replacing the cool white LEDs in both lights with high-CRI leds such as the 5700K high-CRI version of the SFT25r.
  • The EST SE UI might be great for tactical use, but could be better for civilian EDC use. Perhaps add a hidden option to configure the second-stage click so it isn’t always strobe.
