I swung by my local Walmart this morning and it had been awhile since I'd perused the flashlight aisle so I had a peek. Turns out there are a bunch of newer higher output (higher by general consumer store standards) lights available and some prices aren't too bad. Here's a shot showing most of the newer ones (mostly bushnell & Ozark Trail brande, but there is a new "700 Lumen" Coleman too).
Notice the rechargeable Ozark Trail lights? Wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole! Most certainly lithium batteries inside. Check out the 8xAA Bushnell "1000 Lumen". I'm most certain I remember seeing it was an XM-L2.

I found that angle headlamp interesting. Is that an XP-G2 in that Bushnell "225 Lumen"?
And here's an interesting find; a retro vintage Ray-O-Vac but with an LED (bug eye type):
At only $4.97 perhaps it could be a decent cheap mod host to have that "vintage: sleeper look. Here's the LED:
By the way, I walked out of the store with none of them.
