I have 2 Sr52 and unprotected cells are too short—I added some of the brass buttons that Mountain sells to each spring
To the guy having trouble—add some folded up foil—washers anything to the back of the battery and see if you can make the light work
So it turned out that Richard was right. When it dropped it must have landed on the tail cap and the force of the batteries compressed the springs. Short springs = loose batteries. Just gave them a little stretch and olights ya torch!!

Glad you got it figured out! It really is just a case of springs that are too short from the factory.
Perhaps you have probably read my problem in post # 1. What do you suggest I do with the tailcap?
