Found this tonight… wifey broke the glass out of the SRK … damn … anybody know where I can find replacement round glass/ plastic replacement?
Thx in advance …
Yeah…I broke mine too…anyone know where to get a replacement, maybe AR coated too if not too expensive?
AR coated? Try flashlightlens.com. Their AR Acrylic goes up to 110mm.
What dia is the SRK lens?
The SkyRay lens is 54.88mm or so x 2 or 3mm, depending on the light. I just put a caliper to one of my lenses.
CNQG seems to be out of stock right now. Here’s what CNQG stocks, but in bulk.
If you want indestructible, but high quality, you can do no better than the UCLp AR Acrylic Lens from flashlightlens. The size you want is 54.87mm by 2.25mm
There is also hardcoat acrylic 55mm x 1.86mm if you don’t care about AR.
Thanks you-all . Really appreciate it !
The UCLp AR Acrylic Lens from flashlightlens is on its way.
The lens came in today. Perfect fit. AR coated. Dimensions spot-on. Awesome!!! Thanks Rollinstone and the rest of you guys, you’re the best !!!
Put it in, screwed it on, perfect fit and the wife is outside with the chickens right now using it. 3 cheerz y’all
As the old saying goes, happy chickens, happy wife. Its good to hear alls good again.
That’s the ole saying ?? Uhh / … I musta remembered it wrong lol …
Yep … all is good for now … :]
What! You keep her out with the chickens, kinky?
Seriously though watch the heat as acrylic is a thermoplastic and those SRKs can get warm if used on max for very long. I wish that vendor offered his borofloat high temp glass in the SRK size rather than the few sizes he lists that in.
Naw she gets to sleep inside with the stray cats/dogs and me … lol … sht … didn’t think about the heat and plastic … borosilicate would have done nicely … guess we’ll see what happens… if it melts, it melts… if it holds up, good for us …
Whats the latest news on the light usage wise and what would you change next time to make it better? Is it much better than the old light?
I’m sorry, I don’t understand the question. The ‘old light’ being the SLA/Automotive headlight flashlight from another thread? We are pleased with the usage, the weight is a lot better (lighter) and the runtime is comparable. Make it better? Well, I miss the simplicity of simply plugging the old lights into the charger, that took about 2 seconds vs taking the 4 batteries out and putting them individually into the charger … that takes a little longer … no biggie tho . Also the SRK gets muddy vs the old light because it doesn’t sit on a “stand” elevated up from the ground (or mud-pit, as it were heh) making cleaning more frequent. I plan on designing and building a stand for it though … All in all we really like the light though. My wife missed it while it was in “out-of service” mode (waiting on the replacement lens ) …
Thanks steve-o. You answered my awkward question perfectly. It sounds like you need some sort of prod the light is attached to that sticks in the ground.
In my very unofficial testing, the UCLp lens are better than any cheap AR lens. I've got plenty of both and did some output tests and the UCLp is consistently better. Chris at FLL is real good there.
Yeah seems like a real good lens. I’ll just have to wait until the SRK runs superheated to make sure that there’s no deformation or damage … my gut feeling is that it’s not going to really get that hot …
MRsDNF — adding a prod is a good idea but that’s like an accident waiting to happen … my wife takes spills in the chiken-yard … that’s how the lens got broken in the 1st place … eehhhhh ………. accident prone is an understatement here … /sigh/…
Need to find a deep crenelated bezel for the light, one deep enough so it helps protect the lens. Use it to defend against chicken attacks! They can be vicious. As a kid I lived in the Philippines where cock fighting was practically the national sport and those roosters could be vicious with one another. The knives that were attached to their legs were no laughing matter either.
Yeah, a guy I work with who is from the Philippines told me about those tungsten steel shanks they strap to the poor roosters legs. That shit ain’t right. I don’t profess to make judgment to other cultures customs though … anyway , back OT, the roosters that we have aren’t scary and the flashlight should be ok for now with the new lens… if not… we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it … this one looks just about oky-dokey for now . We’ll just have to see how long it lasts. Hopefully a long time. At least it’s poly and not glass so it wont shatter and shard …
I’m kind of shooting from the hip here, but isn’t the issue w/ acrylic or polycarbonate lenses and heat more with incandescent bulbs? I’m not sure if I read it or just assumed it, but I thought the issues came from using incan/hotwire bulbs which emit a ton on that spectrum but the plastic lenses were not as transparent to IR, so lots of it got absorbed…. if true then there shouldn’t be anything to worry about w/ any LED setup that doesn’t burn the skin.
That’s a good thought wight … IR from tungsten or halogen could play a major role in lens heating … visible spectrum LEDs emit no IR at all I suppose … I think though Rich might have been referring to the outer ring of the flashlight housing where the lens physically clamps/holds the lens. That area gets hot when running those lights for 20-30 minutes at a time. Depending on the heat resistance of the lens material this may or may not be a problem. I said poly before , I meant acrylic … my mistake … I may do a heat-run and post the results …
