Stonewashing and similar finishes

Hi.,

I’ve been on here a little while. Seen various materials/finishes on flashlights (or torches as they’re called where I’m from) including aluminium, stainless steel, titanium, copper and even carbon fibre etc which are sometimes anodised or highly polished or whatever.

Strangely absent are some of the nicer stonewashes that are often seen on knives. Here’s an example of my Spyderco Slysz Bowie clone which has a heavily stonewashed titanium handle coupled with a mirror polished then stonewashed blade. Both very nice and great for masking the inevitable scratches that such a tool should get when used.

Another nice finish is a “blackwash”.

All of these would look really nice on torches but I haven’t seen much other than a couple of beadblasted Olights.

Anyone want to chime in with their thoughts?

could it be because aluminium and copper are much softer then stainless steel?

Looks nice, how did you do the finish?

Have a look at the flashlights from ArmyTek, they have a matte black finish, which i like very much. It also has a unique feel in the hand and has a lot more grip, than one expects from the look - even wet!

Not my work mate - that is how I received it from the postie.

Hi - I’ve looked at some of them, very nice.

When it comes to feel, the Darktort I am writing a review of has a finish that feels as soft as baby skin, like silk.
