Ok. It stops your computer from connecting to a given IP. When you visit a website, such as budgetlightforum.com, a DNS changes you easily remembered words into numbers, called an IP. Google’ s iP’s are 74.125.xx.xxx… they have many.
So peerblock is loaded with blocklists or blacklists that are free, or that you pay for. Blacklist is a large list of IP’s that someone (or a group of people/company) put together of known bad IP’s; porn sites, government spies, advertisements, etc. Squidblack is $10 a year subscription and they update daily or more.
It’s very helpful to keep the MPAA or DCMA from forcing your ISP to send you a cease-and-desist letter for torrenting popular movies.
Thanks for reporting back. I actually had temporarily disabled the Google ads on the whole site for a few hours to troubleshoot a different issue, which might have been the timeframe in which you tested. Could you please try again on that same link? I suspect that the USG connections might have something to do with one of the remotely loaded images, which are present on the frontpage because of the featured reviews there, but not present on the Site Rules page.
Well that depends. If you don’t live in the USA, then you are effectively free from the reach of the most tyrannical government humanity has ever seen, and so it may not be such an issue to you.
If you do, then it might be prudent to limit your exposure to anyone that steals from you, or limits your liberty “in your best interest.”
The US government is the most tyrannical gov. in history? I’m not try to start a political argument but anyone with an ounce of sense knows that is patently untrue. You might want to Google N. Korea for starters.
Hmmm, everybody please be careful with political opinions here. This kind of discussion never ends pretty… There’s an EDIT button below everyone’s comments, feel free to use it! :face_with_monocle:
