These types of movies need to have public safety messages both at the beginning and at the end of the movie. A stiff reminder that what’s depicted is done by professionals in a controlled environment. These actions taken on public roads are considered felony crimes and will result in jail time. There’s just too many stupid people with money in this country, who invest huge sums of money in buying high performance vehicles or upgrading vehicles to achieve extreme high performance capabilities. And then they flex those cars on public roads, taking extreme risks.

In the USA, it’s far too easy to get a driver’s license. Europe does it right with extensive training. It’s not cheap, but you end up with safer drivers.

Yes, we need to improve our laws and policies with driving here in the USA. If you kill someone while driving, not even under the influence, it’s not even murder unless you intentionally did it. Negligence is classified as manslaughter. Here, driving under the influence kills a lot of people and its totally preventable with stricter enforcement, harsher penalties. 1st offenses and even 2nd ones are more expensive than anything. Its a misdemeanor. Yah it stings and costs about $5000 total after fines, court fees, and paying for DUI diversion counseling, traffic safety courses, and victims panels. Plus you may have to pay for an immobilizer interlock, which gets steep. BUT, you don’t lose your driving privileges or anything. This isn’t really a deterrent though since some people can afford the fees or get a lawyer and dismiss/reduce those charges. Shoot, even if you kill someone (more than one) while DUI it’s only considered manslaughter and you get maybe 3 or 5 years in prison. To me, this should be 2nd degree murder at least which has much longer incarceration.

No excuse for being stupid behind the wheel and there should be little mercy for stupid, reckless, or negligent driving. Take the car? Big deal. They should get a felony charge.

I see it too often. People driving with NO license, NO insurance, and they get a slap on the wrist or a fine when caught. You can even buy a car without insurance and a fake license in some cases if you pay cash. Who pays for these individuals if they crash into you? I do. I have to pay extra on my premiums to cover UNINSURED drivers, even if one never crashes into me. Ridiculous.

Firstly, I think the way civilian driver licensing in the USA is done is anemic. You get tested ONCE, to get your license–then that’s it. It’s not until you’re elderly where in some states you need to take a refresher test. The system relies upon the police and insurance companies to keep drivers in check. It’s a reactive system. You crash your car? Your rates go up. You crash it again? You may not even be able to get insurance, unless you’re wealthy. You get multiple speeding tickets? You can end up with enough points on your license to have it suspended.

The trouble with the police system is that enforcement is way too anemic. I really don’t see many police cars on the road or parked monitoring traffic. As a driver, I see way too many bad drivers taking chances and not getting caught.

There should be a driver report system. You have a Bluetooth connected dashcam where you can upload the video compressed to a site where your phone gets a link notification, and then you can send that to a law enforcement authority.

Yes, DUI penalties should be higher. Driving is serious business. A first offender? OK, still a pricey fine. But you do it again? Sorry. Should have bought a breath-tester to keep yourself from driving while intoxicated. You should end up with a suspended license and forced to take a rehabilitation driving course.

Manslaughter should have graver penalties. It’s insane how in some states, white guys with political connections get off with a handslap.

True. To be fair, for new drivers (at least here in WA State) they require a certificate from a driver’s ed program for drivers under age 18 nefore you can test for the license. Take the class, take the test (written, driving), pass, and pay them $55 and you got a license, no matter how mature or immature you may be at age 16. Giving a 16 or 18 year old control of a car is dangerous business and needs to be better regulated. Raise the driving age to minimum 18. My son didn’t get his license until 18 and didn’t start driving on his own until then. Never had an accident or ticket as far as I know.

For enforcement, cops generally won’t go after you unless you’re really breaking the law (and they see you do it). where I live pot, PCP, heroin, meth, fentanyl aren’t really illegal anymore…so take the driving infraction bit with a grain of salt. Law reinforcement has their hands tied by Olympia for stuff that’s otherwise a no brainer for enforcement.

That’s encouraging to hear about mandated Driver’s Ed in your state.
When I got my license, insurance was very expensive and my parents insisted that I take a class for the insurance discount. So I did. All of my friends did too. So there was that financial incentive. Some states don’t really give much of a discount for it, which is a shame.

For my insurance company, I took an on-line course from the state that’s called “advanced driving,” that teaches you more indepth about driving rules, safety, and accident avoidance. The percentage off wasn’t all that much, but did pay for the course for the first year. It was amazingly detailed and I actually learned some things from it. I was glad I took it. And I think it should be mandatory for renewing your license at every other renewal point.
