I have a 14500 battery in it, and was going to recharge the battery tonight, but a bit of an embarrassing question: I can’t get the head off to remove the battery :(!!
This light has a push-pull type zoom, and when I turn it to remove the head, it just keeps spinning, but the head isn’t coming off. I haven’t had any problems doing this before, so not sure if something wore out or whatever, but does anyone know how I can do this. The battery that I have in it cost me more than the darn light, so I really would like to get it out.
NVM :)… Quite embarrassed, but the click switch end unscrews! I could have sworn (actually I’m sure) that before this I was removing the head to put a battery in.
I guess that I’m now still wondering, how DO I remove the head, since it just spins?
You don't remove the head, that is unless you want to mod it. Don't feel bad about the tailcap, I had to message a member here when I got my first SK68. ;)
fyi though, I've taken 1 or 2 apart and was able to unscrew the end ring where the lens is - it may be very tight, or worse case glued, but basically the movable head separates into 2 pieces.
To open the front of a Sipik 68, you have to unscrew the crenelated bezel ring from the rest of the sliding bezel. If you do that, then you can pull off the front part of the bezel together with the lens.
This will reveal the pill with the emitter and driver. The pill flares out at its front. This flared out part is what prevents the back part of the sliding bezel from falling completely off the light when you extend the bezel into spot mode. To remove the pill, you need to insert needle nosed pliers into the two slots on the pill and then unscrew the pill completely. Once you pull the pill out, you can then access the battery compartment from the front.
Since I doubt you used pliers to install the battery into your SK68 the first time, I feel pretty confident you inserted the batteries from the back.
I understand what you said, but let me say this: I had changed the battery in that light a bunch of times before today, and today was the FIRST time I found out that I could even unscrew the tail end. I don’t know HOW I did it earlier, but I KNOW I did it. I also (vaguely) remember that it was kind of strange, because when I removed the front, I could see the gold contact area, and I went “hmmm”, and also, if I recall the threaded part was on the “inside” part of the head (I’m probably not explaining that, but it wasn’t where I had expected the threaded part to be).
I wish I had taken some pictures now, but I know that I’m not going crazy here :(… I think :)…
Hah! I just got the front off. I just kept unscrewing it, and most of the time it just felt like the whole bezel (the part that you can slide in and out) was just spinning, then suddenly it felt like it “caught” and then front started unscrewing.
I’ll try to post a picture, but need to charge my tablet…
If your zoom head is tight enough, you can unscrew the sk68 from the front like Ohaya’s pic. The ones that I have with O-ring can do this, but this won’t work with the loose zoom ones though (like metal c-ring ones).
If the pill is not tightened enough, it is possible. It wasn’t meant to replace battery from the front side. There is an o ring or piece of wire between the head and pill so you don’t apply enough torque to the pill when you twist the head. All the clones I have seen had the head so loose that it was possible to unscrew it, though. You’d better tighten the pill and use the tailcap for accessing the battery compartment.
It also depends how loose or tight the pill is screwed into the body. I would advise you unscrew the tail cap from now on though to gain access to the battery.
