Suggestions for a deep red light to spy on our hedgehog

Hi I’m looking for a simple and inexpensive (ideally less than $20) deep red flashlight (650nm or slightly higher). Modding is not for me unless it’s more or less a drop-in type of thing. Lumens not important whatsoever. Just want to check in on our little hedgehog at home at night without disturbing it.

Regular AA compatible would be nice, otherwise Li is ok. Red light only (no white) to keep things simple and cheap. Should be available within Asia since I’m currently located in Thailand.

I’ve checked some of the threads here but there wasn’t much on deep red wavelengths in particular which is a strict requirement for me. Any suggestions appreciated.

can’t guarantee the wavelength but a few red:

Philips Luxeon K2 vs. Cree R2 XR-C

Which is the better LED? (assuming they’re not fake)

Luxeon has a true “deep red” 655nm emitter option available:

Unfortunately, the light on FastTech doesn’t have a picture showing the emitter, but it’s listed as a 620-630nm option. I don’t know of anywhere to buy a light with the less common Luxeon emitter options.

I am very pleased with Philips Luxeon Rebel deep red LEDs, but I don’t know of a light that comes with them.

Thanks guys. Ended up finding this cheap drop in. Doesn’t mention wavelength but for $4 I’m willing to give it a try.

Hank, this one actually lists 650nm in it’s specs. Great find — will give it a try if the drop in doesn’t work. You also reminded me that I have an old camera filter I can use in the meantime. [thumbs up]

Remember, FastTech “specs” are speculative — can’t rely on them, they often don’t know what they’re selling.
But sometimes they’re in the ballpark.
