I have 2 SolarForce P1 ’s that I want drop-ins for. I am going to put them in my wife’s car for her to use. I need them to be single mode (easy) and reliable. I want her to be able to run them until the batteries are dead and not to have to worry about over heating. I also would like them to run off 2 X cr123’s, since they are going to be stored and forgotten about until needed.

How much are you looking to spend per drop in?
I would like keep it around the $15 range maybe $20 if it makes a great deal of difference in quality.
it dosen’t have to be the brightest or have the newest emitter. She will turn it on and leave it on till the batteries go dead and then put more batteries in it. These hosts aren’t the greatest at dealing with heat so a 700 lm XML would just get too hot

Im not sure of the runtime, but I changed a tire one night, and an alternator the next night on a single 18650
We just built a custom light around one of these last month. We had ...well... "felt the need" to reflow a solder joint or two that looked a little cold but it worked really well and the customer was happy. The beam was nice. Thats a good price for these too I think.

I guess if your going to assemble a custom light for somebody using a Chinese drop-in it is a very good idea to check the solder/assembly work, +1 to you for being thorough! I’ve just used them for personal use, but I haven’t had any problems with the four I have or the six I’ve given as gifts.

It's driven around 1A so no severe overheat like a Direct Drive XML. Mine has been great! If the stock reflector is too throwy for your need, this OP reflector...
...is very high quality and would make the beam floodier.
I grabbed Two Manafont single mode R5s. I have some ‘Mana Points’ so it worked out well.

Too late for the OP, but I just found that FastTech has the UltraFire 1-mode XPG-R5 Drop-in for $7.19, much cheaper than other sites...
I still might grab a couple to have as back ups for some of my Solar Force XML lights.
Typically we don't have any problems with China Drop-in units. We usually buy the driver and build the rest other than the reflector...but the guy had this one and wanted to use it. We always look at the drivers closely under magnification but actually find few if any problems.
