Sugru

Has anyone used this stuff before? I bought some recently to play with. It’s basically silicone rubber you can mold into all sorts of things.

Interesting but a little pricey :cowboy_hat_face: 8)

It is a bit, but I think you get a lot in a 5g packet.

That stuff looks really cool but very pricey for the small amount you get. I'm wondering what use it could have on my flashlights...custom grips...Shock absorbent bezels and tail pieces...

for an old letch like me, you really could have not brought this to my attention……it conjoured up……images…

Try polycaprolactone instead. Available all over the place for not too much money. Not as flexible as Sugru but a lot cheaper.

Images of what??! Or should I not ask that? :stuck_out_tongue:

not on this forum……

shall we just say that this quote

along side your avatar sort of sent me in one direction……

Oooh I remember seeing a video of this stuff a long time ago, melting it in a saucepan and being able to reuse it? I think Sugru sets so you can’t reuse it.

I could make some cat ears! No? Or I could just buy some. >.<

Great info ,but the link to shop is well out of date my friend

yeah, thats it, devil horns for Halloween…

I must just have a dirty mind

Google around some… there is an Instrutible (?) or something on making your own Sugru substitute. Start by searching for: homemade sugru. BTW, Sparkfun has (had) some slightly expired Sugru at a discount.

Thanks, texaspyro!

Now I’m wondering what to do with the leftovers so it doesn’t go to waste. >.<

Bake some Sugru cookies!

I was going to mention Oogoo!
Anyone try it? I’ve been wondering how it actually works out.

wow, this is news to me, and I spent some time a couple years ago searching for just such a product.

thanks for posting.

after my search, I ended up dissolving polysterene (the brittle white beaded packing foam) in acetone instead.

that is kind of tough to work with - it can be shaped and it hardens but if you make something too thick the acetone evaporates but doesn’t escape and you get bubbles/expansion. and the end result is not very flexible.

I’d be careful with dissolved polystyrene, the styrene monomer (Which there will be a fair amount of in solution) is nasty stuff and is possibly carcinogenic.

yes, in fact, i think it certainly is carcinogenic, which is good to note in case someone decides to try the crazy stuff I blurt out lol

funny how I won’t drink my coffee from a polystyrene cup but I’ve molded it with my bare hands :Sp
