I ordered a Sunwayman V11R Mirage from Fasttech and I have been having a lot of problems with it. I was curious if anybody has run into this same problem and knows how to fix it.
Here is a video showing the problem:
Basically, the light doesnt always turn on. I have to fiddle with the control ring to get it to come on. Also, when I turn the control ring, it turns on and off, flickers, and just generally fails miserably. I have also noticed that if I turn the control ring too quickly, it feels like it gets disconnected and the amount of resistance it has drops to almost nothing. Then you jiggle it back and forth and it seems to catch again and starts resisting the movement and turning smoothly again.
I am in contact with Fasttech to get a replacement, but I was just curious if this is a known issue and if there is a fix for it.
Yes, I did have the exact same problem with a V10R (aluminum version) I bought from FastTech. I couldn’t find a way to fix it, but I’m not very good at fixing flashlights, and I wasn’t really motivated to do so because Sunwayman is a premium brand that should just work. But FastTech’s support was fantastic. They ended up telling me to send it back and they gave me a store credit for the full cost of return shipping. I’m currently waiting on the replacement.
Hi Admin, hope it all works out well for you. Nice to hear the return shipping cost is covered by FT! Was the return shipping registered, if so whether it was requested by FT?
No, I sent it unregistered. They specifically told me to use the cheapest method possible, even if unregistered. I was really surprised they offered to cover return shipping, because shipping from here to Hong Kong is NOT cheap. They also have a USA address, but apparently they handle returns from where I live directly in Hong Kong.
Edit: The support rep wasn’t anybody from FastTech that posts here on BLF, and I never mentioned that I happen to be, um, sb56637 from a certain internet forum. So I think they gave me the normal treatment according to their standard procedures. Good to know that I wasn’t given preferential treatment.
I also have a mirage from Fasttech. No problems with it operating, but the control ring is tight to start, and, as you say, becomes loose very quickly, then, equally quickly, stiff again. The beam isn’t perfect, with a noticeable ring in the spill, which is a shame (but OK outside).
Hi Woody, is Nitecore 14500 your preferred cell? Reading on this thread what's the highest capacity 14500 cell?, it seems Nitecore 14500 is a safer option compared to Keeppower in terms of length?
I only have a couple of Nitecore and some Trustfire Flames. I would have bought the Keeppower if I’d known they were available (I didn’t realise that Fancy Flashlights sell them). I don’t have a hobby charger, but definitely prefer the Nitecore to the Trustfire.
Oh, I also have a couple of efest IMR 14500 - they are flat top and don’t fit a few lights. Haven’t checked the Mirage though.
You might try taking it apart as I found with the AA adapter ring has to be tight. First time I tried mine it would not work so I cleaned up the threads and lubed. Had to tighten light real good to get proper contact. I know it was the adapter ring because it was flawless with a 16340.
I contacted Fasttech and showed them the above video. They are paying to have it sent to Florida and are going to send me a replacement. I guess I’ll just have to make do with my Zebralight SC52w, Jetbeam RRT01, Sunwayman R10R, Sunwayman R10A, Olight S10-ti, Crelant V31A, DQG 18650, and Fenix PD22G2 in the mean time.
