While I was at the computer I was unscrewing the v11r and putting the extender on and swapping in a 14500… just to shine it at the wall and then swap back to 16340 and repeat. Everyone does this, right? Anyways the extender got slightly cross threaded, I didn’t tighten it, but I had to back it out, and now I can’t get it to turn on at all. I’ve only had this light for about two weeks.
Has anyone else had this problem? All the threads I find are people who dropped it or need to repack the control ring grease.
I got out the multimeter and verified the switch is still working, swapped out multiple batteries that are working in other flashlights, and took out the circuit board. When I took out the circuit board the leads connecting to the emitter were poorly soldered on and came loose, I stripped the wires a bit and soldered them back on. The other surface mount components seem fine.
Is there anything else I can do before contacting Sunwayman to ship it back to China for a repair?
I wonder if it isn’t making good contact where it threads in. I don’t have one of these, but are the threads anodized or bare aluminum? Any pictures would help to visualize what you’re describing. My guess without seeing is that somehow the light isn’t completing the circuit from the body to the head.
Since you mentioned the threads getting a bit stripped, I suspect the shiny edge of the tube isn’t making good contact with the shiny base of the head. Have you bypassed the switch to verify the head still turns on? If so, and you say you’ve tested the switch, then it’s got to be a bad connection from body to head. Inspect the threads to make sure the head can fully tighten down, and is not getting bound up before that.
Great idea. I did another test and bypassed the switch completely. I stood a battery on the head so the positive terminal was making contact where it should, then used used my multimeter in ammeter mode to connect the negative terminal to the ring where the threads of the base would normally contact. 0 Amps.
Thanks for the suggestion. I feel like there’s not much else for me to diagnose, I’ll talk to Sunwayman about a return.
