I was talking to my mom on the phone today and she told me something amusing happened to her today.
While at work today, she explained, a coworker of hers was in her office just having a chat. Her coworker noticed her keys laying on the desk and picked them up. The coworker immediately noticed the iTP A3 EOS R5 that I had given my mom to keep on her keys for when she comes home in the dark. The coworker then looks directly into the light and turns it on. My mom said her whole office lit up with a bright white flash of light and the woman freaked out exclaiming "I'm blind!" The coworker said that she has never seen a light so small be so bright. I am pleased that the little iTP surprised someone today.
Has anyone here had someone grab their light and get blown away by the output?
Yes, right after I got the SkyRay 3XML. It was sitting on the coffee table and my friend picks it up and asks how you turn it on. I told him it was on the tail end. So while he looks into the business end he clicks the tail switch. I couldnt help but laugh. I think his words were "holy s---".
Some of my friends are fascinated by my flashlights. I was over at one of my friends houses and i was showing him my, then recently acquired, MGLite X-Thrower. It was in a fully lit room and my friend said, "Wow this thing is bright", one of his other friends was over, and he said, "It's not THAT bright...". He proceeded to grab the light and point it in his face. Then he just sat there complaining about how he couldn't see at all and was concerned he was going to go blind, for about 10 min, all the while i was nearly in tears laughing. I can't express how much i enjoy witnessing stupidity in action.
I love it when a particular friend Demonstrates the particle theory of photons, and prove that photons have a mass.
Always starts along the same line.. "how do I turn this on" and always manages to turn it on while it is pointing at his face, and the sudden rush of photons hits his face hard, causing a serious case of whiplash, much to our enjoyment, every time he appears to demonstrate newtons third law.
It happens to me a lot. A co worker saw my dqg tiny 11. (starts on low) twisted it on whilst looking directly at it. Wasn't impressed. I told them to twist it off an on. They did have it quite close to their face. They also claimed to be blinded for a few seconds.
I always warn people to not look directly into the business end when they turn my lights on, and most of my friends know me well enough to believe me...
Well don't do it with HIDs esp the big reflector ones. A hot-restrike can literally blind you. I had an accident, and even the corona (ie not hotspot) blinded me enough that my eyes swelled a bit and hotspot subsided only like 2 days. If its the hotspot it definitely can blind. 1.5 million PBCP measured is no joke. At 50 metres distance it actually is painful and your eyes feel throbbing if you open them and try to look at the beam..... compare this with say a Ultrafire C8 XM-L which is comfortable to look at it indefinitely.
Try flashpilot's 150 million PBCP from the VSS-3. Same danger as a class IV 445nm 1 watt laser pointer. Both have NOHD of about 300 plus metres if i remember correctly. Nominal Ocular Hazard Distance.
Yeah, I only have one HID at the moment (WE Boxer) and I keep it where friends can't see it. I dont want people clicking it on/off for obvious reasons to the bulbs life.
Now the 100 watt I will be building soon will be another other story.
