This cropped up out of the blue: I went to remove the battery on my trusty UF-H2, and the tailcap unscrewed a few turns and then got really difficult to turn. I had to use a slightly damp cloth to increase my grip, and finally got it off. I really had to put some force into it for about a turn or so.
The threads on the body are OK, but on the tailcap, the spring hold-down — the disk with the two holes 180 degrees apart — was unscrewed most of the way, and the spring was rattling around in there, with no available threads to screw the body into.
So: I got out my precision screwdrivers and I was able to screw that hold-down back into the cap (and man is that spring strong!), but I don’t have any way to get it really snug.
What it takes, I’m sure, is some special tool with a pair of dimples — like snap-ring pliers, only longer — to tighten that hold-down. If this happens again, I’m afraid it’ll damage the threads.
Yep, I generally use a pair of tweezers to do it but most anything will work. Even just taking 2 screwdrivers and placing them in the holes will do the trick.
