I’d like to see news sources linked here on BLF instead of Reddit threads personally. I don’t want to see quotes out of context mixed together with wild speculation.
I hate giving Reddit traffic. The place is a never-ending torrent of rage-bait, astroturfing and propaganda. The best way to view it was with a third-party app to filter out the noise, so naturally Reddit killed those apps. I regret whenever a google search takes me there.

In my opinion, posting links to link aggregator websites instead of to actual articles also falls under the category of not helpful. Tariffs are also a topic which skews heavily towards politics which is a banned category of discussion

I think @sb56637 might need to amend the rules to specifically ban tariff threads.

Tariffs are no different than vat and taxes and shipping costs etc. You can’t pretend that they don’t exist and have a discussion about flashlights and prices without at times discussing them. So to ban all discussion of tariffs is illogical. Yes it can get a little crazy when certain people want to blame certain people. And it’s a somewhat moving target that some people are going to have questions about at times. Attempting to ban the subject is not the right move. Maybe one specific thread. I’m not sure.

- make decision to post about inflammatory topic
- link to a website known for its drama and group-think instead of a news article
- get talked to about how this approach might be detrimental to positive interaction on forum
- come to the conclusion that it is other people who are actually inciting dissent
As Racoon said, we’ve seen how tarriff discussions go here eventually. Maybe they don’t need to be explicitly banned, but I would propose the banning of links that are not objective news sources in relation to hot-button topics. No way is a reddit thread on tarrifs going to promote a calm discussion on BLF

Hi everyone, there definitely can’t be discussions about tariffs or other government policies on this forum, because they always lead to arguments. I understand that this link was posted as an informational “heads-up” sort of message for our users whose flashlight orders from China may be affected, and there may be other relevant news items in the future. If the news source is relatively neutral and the news is highly relevant to our flashlight hobby then it will probably be allowed to remain, but the thread will be closed to comments.
