Looks like they only have the 6500K version at this time. I more fond of the 4000K tints personally.

Since there are both visible bond wires (so not flip-chip) and clearly phosphor over the entire pad, could this and the recent “XP-G2 HE” be using the same design and production process?

Could be, I do not have high expectations. But I will do a quick test when I get a couple in from KD.

Just saw a flashlight on KD which uses it,

The listing has errors but assuming it’s a L3 and the driver produces 5A, the 1800 Lumens is probably accurate

Excited to see your results, now that I think about it I don’t think I ever really saw any input on how the XP-G2 HE performed at all either, know of any tests/beamshots?

Wellp, maybe you could renew interest by taking a different, casual and more relaxed testing approach? Testing a few emitters in a row can save effort, imho.

Very yellow. I suspect the Cree rainbow with this one too. Hopefully it makes up for it with a nice beam and putput.

I got one from KD also but I don’t recall even taking a close look at it. I guess I was not optimistic it would beat other emitters so the motivation was just not there to investigate it.

Understandable. Your testing is always quite thorough, and has been an incredible service to the community for free. The time invested in proper testing is pretty significant. I thank you for all the tests you have done, and would never take them for granted nor expect them of you or others.

Tad off topic but, while G00gl€ searching for XM-L3 datasheet I obtained this discrete leds link, where I found this XP-E2 Torch thing. So Cree is investing something in the flashlight market, although I am pretty sure mostly everyone around here will just look elsewhere.

The XP-E2 Torch is already a somewhat old led nowadays.
If I recall correctly the main difference is the viewing angle.

my guess is this is where the ones that fall outside their normal bins get sold.
to makers of cheap lights.
or maybe the “xenon blue” ricer crowd.
