POVD is Post-Off Voltage Display,
it shows Aux at the Voltage Color, for 4 seconds after turning off the main LEDs..
I found a specific benefit that gave me a reason to update to Firmware 2025-07-07
I had been avoiding using POVD and would routinely turn it off completely. The reason was that I objected to the High Brightness Aux after using very low outputs in the dark of night.
Now I can disable High Brightness but still have the benefit of Dim Brightness POVD. (or even POVD Off below a configurable output)
On my TS10 and TS10SG, which have no button lights, It allows me to turn off Bright POVD Aux and still keep Dim POVD Aux.. win win
On my D3AA which Does have a button light, it allows me to turn Bright Button light off and only keep Dim Button light. These also apply to POVD
Anduril continues to impress and entertain.. kudos to ToyKeeper for the ongoing feature enhancements.
from the online Manual: two new features added to the Voltage config menu that also controls POVD:
Aux low ramp level. Controls behavior of aux button LEDs while the main LEDs are on. Below this ramp level, button LEDs will not be lit up while the main LEDs are on. At or above this level, button LEDs light up at the “low” brightness level. Setting it to 0 keeps the button LEDs off completely while the main LEDs are on. Also controls brightness of post-off voltage display.
Aux high ramp level. At or above this ramp level, button LEDs light up at the “high” brightness level. Setting it to 0 disables button’s high aux mode while the main LEDs are on. Also controls brightness of post-off voltage display.
I just have to say here… @wolfgirl42 did most of the work on that patch. I mostly just polished it a bit, after sitting on the patch for way, way too long. The feature could have been added a long time ago if I was better about keeping up with pull requests.
Can I suggest a soft-lock feature? On my lights with sensitive buttons (X4Q Comet 2024), the light can only realistically be carried in lockout. I’ve heard Hank’s metal buttons also have this problem, and doing 4C all the time is annoying because of my clumsy ogre hands. I would really prefer to do 1H or 2H to unlock to the memorized/last used ramp level.
I use something which I call “pocket UI”. It shifts most functions from off by one click, so 1H gives you momentary low, 2C enters memorized brightness, 2H turns it on at lowest level 3C highest level etc.
It’s a custom patch and not adapted to the latest Anduril yet. So a little bit of programming and compiling involved.
Well, this may be a classic case of “it’s not a bug, it’s a feature”. The manual states for aux low ramp level, which also controls the POVD brightness: “Setting it to 0 keeps the button LEDs off completely while the main LEDs are on.” To me, this sounds like what you have noticed is the intended behavior (?).
By the way, another way to set the POVD to always high brightness is to set the Off aux LEDs to high (if you want them high, that is), cf. TK’s explanation to a question of mine over at GitHub. This detail is currently not documented in the manual, but I have included it in this diagram by myself:

In this case there is no button light. The light is a TS10SG. It has a beaded optic that makes it harder to see Dim POVD during the day.
my goal was to set POVD to come on Bright if the light was turned off at step 4 of 7, 30 lumens, or higher. I wanted No POVD below step 4
So first I tried setting Dim Povd to 0, and
Bright POVD to 50.. but there was no POVD display at all.
(Same as if POVD option 2 was set to 0.)
Now Im using Dim POVD at 50/150, and
Bright POVD also at 50/150.. that works to produce Bright POVD on Level 4 and No POVD if the light is turned off from below 30 lumens.
At night I use 1H to access low modes, at much less than 30 lumens
this allows my bedside use for middle of the night, to be POVD free
During the day I want bright POVD, for Level 4 or higher.
I also set Manual memory to Level 4, so I automatically get POVD during the day, if I just do 1C to turn on..
Sounds great! Glad to hear that you figured out the right settings for your use case. I have been confused by some details about the POVD brightness settings before, and I figure it gets even more perplexing, at least initially, if there are no button LEDs at all.
Mildly unrelated Anduril question. I have a KR1 SFT-42R on its way which has (I think) 12W linear no-FET driver / KR4 no fet firmware. Is strobe at ramp max or turbo brightness?
Looking at the code, strobe looks like it’s using full power.
… which on that light is the linear circuit only, no FET.
But, of course, you could change the strobe brightness in the source code. Like, if you wanted strobe to use the level you last ramped to, put this into hw/noctigon-kr4/nofet/anduril.h:
Post-off voltage display is associated with the current brightness, while 3D does not have a “current” brightness, just a “previously used” (or manual memory) brightness. There’s no direct relation to the current situation when entering batt-check.
First time I’ve ever seen anyone say the battcheck blinks are too bright. I’ve had several requests to make it brighter though.
On most lights, the battcheck readout uses the main LEDs. Displaying it on the aux LEDs was kind of an afterthought that I tend to forget even exists. Basically a side effect of including aux in the channel modes.
Every once in a while, I’ll do battcheck on a light which uses aux for that, and then wonder why I don’t see it blinking on whatever I’m aiming the light at… and then I remember, feel silly, and change battcheck to use the main LEDs. But it doesn’t happen often, because most of my lights are already configured how I like, and because I just don’t need battcheck very often ever since the voltage rainbow stuff was added.
When you use moonlight only mode for 99% of use, doing a voltage check will blind you with dark adapted eyes. Not as bad when the voltage check is changed to aux colors though.
If your light has firmware 2025-07-07, you might want to try using POVD’s new Options 3 and 4, instead of 3C Batt Check.
POVD has the advantage of using Dim Aux to produce the Voltage blinks. Plus there is No Flash of white light that you get when you do the first clic of 3C Batt check.
here is a suggested POVD Options configuration, that might work better for you, than 3C Batt check:
set POVD Option 3 to 10 clics (single long hold equals 10 clics). This will keep POVD Off if the light is turned off below 0.20 lumens
set POVD Option 4 to 30 clics (3x 1H). This will make POVD only use Dim Aux unless the light is turned off above 5 lumens.
I’ve never had POVD be too bright as I am usually in moonlight mode/low mode. POVD only shows the color which isn’t super accurate compared to the voltage check ie. 3.87 volts, where the color of POVD is a range of voltages:
Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever been in the situation where I’ve needed to do a battery check and preserve dark adaptation at the same time. I do my battery checks during waking hours so that if the battery needs changed / charged I can see what I’m doing.
As for the battery check blinks on the main emitters, I simply don’t look into the emitters when I do it.
For nightstand use, I use sublumen outputs to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I dont want any voltage blinks when I put the light back on the nightstand.
3C batt check is more disruptive than using POVD Aux. Because the first thing 3C does, is flash the white LEDs on the first of 3 clics. Even when set to do voltage blinks on the Aux. And when the Aux do blink, they do so at High brightness.
POVD offers me several advantages over 3C batt check. No need to triple clic, and no initial flash of white light. POVD can stay Off, use Dim Aux, or Bright Aux.
POVD option 3 even lets me use my light in the middle of the night at sublumen output, and when I put it back on the nightstand it does not flash POVD at all.
Because my Option 3 is set to 30/150, POVD stays Off if I use either of the first two of 7 stepped ramping outputs. (less than 5 lumens)
If I use either step 3 or 4 of the 7 stepped ramping outputs, POVD uses Dim Aux. (step 4 is 100 lumens)
Because I set Option 4 to 60/150. If I use step 5 of 7, or higher, POVD uses Bright Aux. (over 120 lumens uses bright Aux for POVD)
I dont always use 3C batt check when I am checking battery level. And when I do, I dont use the white LEDs, my 3C batt check is set to use the Red Aux.
