The 13th Annual Old-Lumens challenge- 2025- Official thread- Winners announced!!!!

My build is complete.

This was a fun build. And I already have an idea for next years build. Can’t wait!

Here’s mine:

I like the extended deadline; maybe I’ll finish a project this year! Thanks so much for organizing this. I’m feeling good about my plan and I’m having fun already!

I plan to enter this competition!

I’m wondering if within the handmade category it is acceptable to use an angle grinder - it’s similar to an electric saw/belt sander, and I’d be using it for cutting/sanding sheet metal

Thanks for organizing this event, it’s great motivation to try and step up my game!

I would hope so, I’ve used mine for mods a time or two, although I use a dremel and drill more. I won’t be entering into this contest this year, probably will next year. I have a few older-style lights I’ve had ideas for for years, but they’ve always been on the back burner since I only have basic hand tools. planning on getting a printer just for modding.

I would count them [grinder, dremel, drills, etc.] as ‘hand tools’ because they’re not CNC or 3DP or anything requiring a computer, but I’m not involved in this contest or its rules.

my entry thread - build is almost fully done except for a fun bonus feature. im just working on the writeup now and once i return to my dorm ill record a video of its use

I’m not sure if I will enter the contest this year. Maybe if I find a suitable flashlight host and the necessary parts…

Do we only have seven or eight participants this year?

Still got plenty of time.

Could all entrants please make sure to post your build thread in this thread please!

No worries, done mate. Any updates?

Just an update if you would like to enter the 13th Old-Lumens challenge I would be up for extending the end date if the other entrants were okay with that?
We didn’t get a big turn-out, even without an extension you still have 17 days left.

If an extension could/would be permitted I would love that.
I’m not quite finished with my entry yet, and have been in the midst of moving and hunkering down from the winter storm - so an extra week or the like would be appreciated from me.

but if not, that’s fine and swell - I can make do while snowed in and focus on that lil project while I’m not otherwise occupied

Hope everyone is warm!

Started my build tonight, let’s saya it’s 60% now. I’ll update my thread with work in progress picture.

I optimist I can finish it before the deadline but I’m good with the extension date as well.

I am having trouble on the back end of this, I have only had a few replies for sponsorship and no solid offers, I don’t mind extending it by a week. If no one objects?, I will extend it by a week. The new proposed updated finish time is the 6/ Feb/2026.

Also, if anyone would like to sponsor the contest, feel free to message me.

I’m fine with extending. If it gets us more contestants and sponsors, I see no harm in it

Hiya mate, could you count me in? Thanks!

I’m fine as well with the extending, I’ll try my best with the first decided timestamp to finish mine.

Okay, the new end date is the 6/Feb/26, Hopefully that helps out a bit.

Extending the end date definitely helps a lot, so thank you very much!

Hi, would you please clarify at what time (including timezone) the contest ends on the 6th?

Thanks!

Hey yea it’s already the 6th here, I will end it after the 6th fully ends around the world if that makes sense? You should have a day or so.
