After reading specs and watching videos,a nd reading articles on the various S lights, I cannot figure out what the intended differences are among them. I feel as if there is something basic that everyone seems to know but I never heard about. The lights I am talking about are
S2
S2+
S3
S41
S42
S43
and even though it does not begin in S, the A6.

I can see the S4x lights have 4 LEDs in them. What I cannot see is why s41s are for sale when the s43s are available?

I have found at least three manufacturers of S3s. What makes a light an S3? Why would anyone want an S2 when they can have an S3 instead?

And finally, for now, what is the difference between an A6 and S3?

The Convoy S3 has a led shelf. The S2 and has a pill.

S3 little more involved in a mod. Better heat shedding.

Not sure about the others.

S2 vs S2+ difference is the head part. S2 has deeper reflector and shorter pill while S2+ shorter reflector and longer pill. As a result S2 is more throwy, S2+ wider.

I’ve got version of both.
There ain’t much difference in it in actuality.
Both slip out of your hand too easily if you relax grip for an instant.
I have O’rings round body for extra grip.
But normally use C8’s from choice.

S41 is fine for using as long as you don;t go above 4 or 5 of 7 settings for too long.
For the heat.
6-7 are cookers after coupla minutes.

And here is where it gets goofy. The A6 is really just a S1, with no relation at all to the S2 S2+ or S3, now the S41 S42 and S43 are made by the same company that make the S1 and the A6. Crazy I know. S41 and the S1 have the same driver but that driver will fit in the S2 S2+ and S3 which most people call the A6 driver. It just gets crazier from there.

They all copying each other and getting nowhere.
Advancement wise.
Everybody using their own versions of the same
LED’s, body’s.Drivers etc.

If they all stopped what they doing.
and get their ideas together.
We’d all end up with next gen torches and parts.
Everybody would win
with the exception of the real cheap copy specialists.
and we could go forward from where we are
in a whirlpool going round and round
with virtually No advancement.

I’m only buying a coupla Copper ones at present.
been the Ti and Stainless way.
No matter what you want, There’s a plethora of MFG’s
all with one or more torches
giving the choices of same battery. Equal LED’s, boards,
Beam, Spread. etc,etc.
Even looking basically the same. They getting boring now.

Thank you for validating my bewilderment.

I appreciate the specifics provided by all the responses, but this one set me free.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo, if it happens I need a light that runs on one 18650, and I want that to be as cool (as in works well, maximum lumens from one cell, good interface) would it be reasonable to figure the BLF name in the light is a sign of quality and look for a BLF A6?

And to really impress my friends, if I want a really small light that is really bright, get a mini edition of any of these to run with an 18350 instead of the 18650?

Better get the Emisar D4 then, and a 18350 tube as well!
If you want brightness and don’t care for longer runtimes, of course!

At least 3 brands (Olight, Convoy and Astrolux) use the S designation. It’d make sense faster at first read if you mentioned the manufacturers of the torches you’re looking at, because this is far from a rare doubt

Those other lights are nice for what they are but I agree with MascaratumB. Hard to beat the D4 for the money. With a 18350 tube it becomes a truly miniature power house. Exceptional quality and great after sale support from Hank at Intl-Outdoor or Richard from Mountain Electronics. You can save a few dollars from Hank and wait for overseas shipping or order from Mountain for a few bucks more and get it quicker. You really can’t lose either way.

My D4 is due any day, but the tracking is hung up in China since Dec. 30.

Happens quite often. I wouldn’t worry. Sometimes it seems it’s sitting in limbo someplace when it is actually moving. Dec 30th? I’m sure any day now you will get a update with a USPS tracking number and only a few more days to wait. I have had stuff from Banggood, Gearbest, Ali, and Fastech just show up with no tracking info updated until it got to my house, then it showed delivered. Seems somewhere between 2 weeks and 10 weeks is the norm for me. 3 weeks being a average and almost 3 months being the longest.

I am assuming you ordered from Intl Outdoor. Last order I got from them was 7 weeks from order to my door. I don’t know how the govt shutdown has affected US customs though. I’m not up on how all of that works.

My head hurts… :weary:
