think I need your help... brightest budget light availbe?

Ayup, everyone?

Admittedly, it has been quite a while since I’ve posted here (or even dropped by), since my need and greed for new torches has mellowed a good bit. A decent AA light, like my fenix LD10 and the 4sevens Quark tactical QTA, an early solarforce L2 and the trusted Nitecore EZ-AA for backup seems to be all I really need.

Yesterday, my best friend (I’s his best man at his marriage eight years ago) stopped by. I’ve introduced him to the wonderful world of budget flashlights, years ago (all thanks to this wonderful forum!), and I’ve spent quite a bit of money buying him torches for his birthdays or for Christmas. Anyway, last week, his brother-in-law had showed up to show off his new LedLenser X21R.2. And that’s when the trouble started!

Needless to say, my best friend was impressed, but even more, he felt humiliated. “Usually it is the two of us to show others a light that powerful! I can’t have that!!”, he said. He called me on the phone, twice, after that, so I know it really must be nagging him that his brother-in-law owns a brighter, more powerful light – after all, we both were thinking that the SkyRay King was the most budget-oriented lumen-monster available.

So, I’m asking you for a recommendation for a light which is capable of at least 3.2K lumens output (if not more), and 2) cost considerably less than said LedLenser X21R.2 (which I would have to pay around £300 for, here in the UK; and even in Austria or Germany it’d cost me €250… and I am not going to spend that silly amount of money).

He’s a really great guy, fixing my computer all the time and always having time for me, despite having a demanding daytime job, a wife and two lovely daughters, so I really want to help him out on this one… and maybe even surprise him with a gift.
Zoomie would be a bonus, but really, it just has to be a bloody lumen-monster, and it has to be affordable (around one hundred dollars max, or so). Cells, size, ano, that all doesn’t matter at all.

Any ideas? I really appreciate your help on this one…

Simon

Oh is that it

Jeez…

With the right tweaking you can nuke that thing he has

But, keeping up with the jones’s will just burn a hole in your pocket

Get this…

It’s something like 8,000 out the front lumens stock, according to several of our members. It’d blow that LedLenser away!

Then if he scoffs at you…thump him upside the head :stuck_out_tongue:

Hit up electro lumens

Or just look around the forums…someone with a barn burner will show up

Worse comes to worse…you ain’t the first to ask this question

Correct me if I am wrong but the X21R.2 can focus its beam? So you may well get a monster flooder, but he will just focus the Led Lenser and hit targets that your flooder won’t even touch, then who is laughing?

Personally I would be looking at maybe getting a modded BTU Shocker so at least you cover both grounds.

I would go for a dedomed xml2 in a C8 and a FET driver with a samsung 20R cell…
Or a t08
David against Goliath.
The throw is often the impressive part on the led lensers.

Do you have dedomed LEDs and FET driver in your srk I guess not…

It sounds like the impressiveness was from the high lux in the hotspot more than total light capacity. I think you need a thrower and I wouldn’t worry as much about lumens, but if you must combine both, then something like Acebeam x60.

Hi Simon.
Have a look at the HID flashlight called the FF4.
It’s also known as the Fire Foxes 4.
Unbelievably bright and compact enough to fit in the pocket of a fall or winter coat.

Guys… Remember he doesn’t want to spend over $100…

Going to be hard to beat the X21R.2 for $100. For $100, the light Rusty Joe linked in post #2 for a lot of lumens, Thrunite TN31 XM-L2 for throw, or try to buy one of the Supbeam K50’s off somebody who just got one in the group buy.

The x21r.2 has 3200lm and 145kcd. It’s easy to beat either of those but not quite as easy to beat both. Not for less than $100 anyway.

I still stand by my FF4 suggestion.
You want 3.5K lumens or more, right. A single step beyond that, and with all the bragging rights to go with it, is a flashlight in the 6K to 7K area.
My idea is less then 200 Quid, batteries included and will stomp all over the lesser lights.
Expensive, yes. Thing is, you skip over the maybe bright, might be bright, and tries to be bright 4K contender multi emitter looks like a toilet plunger lights for something that will without a doubt, be the king of the hill with your buddy and you.
Sometimes it is worth over buying just so you know you have the best within a set budget.
