The package arrived but i have serious concerns about the adapters, all were non BS1363 approved, no fuses, exposed internals, just about everything that could be wrong was wrong with the charger and adapters, i contacted Celine from Thorfire and i did not even get a response, the adapters were so bad you could touch the internal conductors with your fingers even worse than most on here, there was a white adapter too supplied which does not show on the amazon images. http://www.bs1363.org.uk/html/adaptors.html
Thorfire are usually great to deal with but this lack of response worry me.
I am sure they are just like a couple in the photos. We have high standards for our adapters, America for example allows designs we consider unsafe. Other countries may well be much worse. I think you have to state that the adapters should not be used. A decent one costs a pound or two, peanuts. I wonder if your email is why it is not available?
I sent them photos, perhaps i should do a review with the adapters they supplied? i explained the dangers to them, all my reviews so far have been positive and i have enjoyed doing them.
I’d say do the review and be honest about both the light and how you feel about the power adapters. Then keep us updated if they make any communication.
Thanks for that, all my reviews have been accurate just seems wrong to do a negative review but with no response i worry there not going to change the adapters
Most companies use these style adapters not just them and this is the safer type id rather then one then the smaller thinner model that companies usually ship.
ok, adaptors aside, did you test the light itself? how is it on the road, did you take the light apart? are there “shelves” where leds are mounted, or there is a hole under the stars, and no real heatpath besides edges of the star?
I understand, but frankly this thread could be read as a negative review already, but without any of the positive things about the light. I still say write the review, show us pictures, give the information to the masses to form their own opinions. Then if Thorfire changes/fixes the adapters it will look good for them. Or maybe what you deem unsafe others will just say you are overreacting and buy anyways, or just use their own chargers. You never know.
PD68 is right I think
Good you bring it up, have you pmmed thorfire (Barry) here on BLF?
And yes show the review the adapter is just a part of the package.
I too have the light for review. My initial impressions are very positive. The two I have are not lethal, and you would have to for example stick a piece of metal into the socket holes to get a shock.
As I understand it UK plugs have hard to push in shutters to prevent a child shoving an object into the slots. You can see here that some European countries do not require shutters:
I will be honest, and simply say that the plugs should not be used. I am glad you brought this up. To be honest the big safety issue in my opinion is the four LiIon cells. Thorfire seem to have a decent reputation for their electronics and cells, and what I have seen is decent, but even so, there are four cells in a wrapper that is not as tough as a sealed plastic case. So ‘ordinary’ people have to be warned to take care. BLF readers know this already.
