Thorfire mini keychain light with Nichia 219c Review

It is under $14 and I think it is worth that to have a decent CRI light in my pocket all day. If you do not yet have a light with a Nichia 219 you owe it to yourself to get one. This replaced a stream light that takes two coin cells and had a seriously purple tint that I had on my keychain for more than a decade. I had to give that light away as it now creeps me out.

This cell phone pic does not due it justice, but it is what I have. I would call the tint a bit pinkish compared to the XML, XPL, and XPG lights I normally buy. It is not super bright, so it will not replace the 18650 powered light that I usually carry, but I have been leaving it in the car a lot because this is plenty of light for indoor use with the enveloop AAA.

I’m a CW fan but I do have one AAA light with a Nichia 219 and the beam is very pleasant. Hope this isn’t too pinkish.

Do you know if it will accept a 10440 cell? I couldn’t find anything that states it does.

I saw nothing that allowed a lithium battery so I just used eneloop AAA

I have one of these that I’m also evaluating for Thorfire. Must say that I like it a lot more than expected. The Nichia emitter has probably the best NW tint/temp/and CRI combo I’ve seen to date, really pleasantly surprised. No pinkish bias on mine that I mind at all. I also think the output level is about perfect for what I want from a one-mode keychain light.

I did not intend to imply the tint is too pink, most lights look too blue or purple to me and this is just different. I love it for indoor use especially.

I just received mine. Nice little light. The “can’t twist the head off” to me is a nice touch. Tint is very nice and I notice no pink. Build quality is very good.

For a keychain light though, I prefer the Olight i3E EOS which noticeably smaller and also has a nice tint.

There is something I absolutely hate about this light that I have yet to read in a review. There is no grease on the threads. It makes high pitched squeaks and metal to metal noise for the full 1 1/4 turn to on or off. The lack of grease (and it “feels” like lack of o-ring) make the head twist too freely. As in it’s very loose unless tightened all the way in either direction. Both issues could be easily fixed with a dab of grease if I could figure out a way to get the head off without damaging the it. The bezel seems to be glued on. I cant get it to budge.

I had KL02 Old ThorFire Key Chain Flashlight. That light was not impressive at all. But, I have listed some of the best keychain flashlights in my blog that I have used personally 10 Lightweight but Mighty Keychain Flashlights of 2023. Thorfire keychian flashlight isn’t my top pick.
