Thorfire S70, released some magic smoke from the driver..

After the resistor mod it worked fine for the first couple tests but suddenly it went dead and I smelled the awful smell of a burned component.

After inspection it appears that only one component has released his magic smoke.
It looks like it was a condensator but obvious I can’t see/read text or the specs anymore.

Does anyone have an idea what the specs are so I can order a new one?

Not sure what that part is, but I had a similar situation happen to mine. I think it was because my solder joints on the mcpcb where to high/big and shorted across the reflector. There’s not much room there for error when soldering the LED back in.

It’s a 226 Tantalum Capacitor. Tiny A up in the corner with 226D-61831.Something like these…………………………. This product is no longer available.

That is what I think has happened, it’s pretty hard to make joints that are small enough.

Might understand you wrong but are those the ones I need? Or just an example for what type of part I need?
Im not really familiar with all these parts.

Just an example. I tried to find the part with the numbers off my driver, but could not find the exact one? I have my S70 modded, so I don’t need the stock driver.

Thnx, if you don’t need it I’m willing to buy it from you.
PM me if you would sell it.

You can have it, but I stripped the resistors off it for another project/build. You can just solder across, jumping the pads or add resistors if you want too? Just pay for shipping.

No problem, have some resistors to fix that.

I just got my S70 today and did a double spring by-pass. I went to do the solder blob and there are two huge R082’s in it. Did they install new a driver or upgrade the S70? Anybody else notice this?
