I have a ThorFire VG-10S flashlight that has had little use and is fairly new. Even with a fresh 18650 battery, the clicky switch only brings a moon mode. It should have moon, low, mid, and high modes.
I would appreciate any help in having this light function as normal. Thanks in advance.
Just pulled it out of storage or something?
Disassemble everything, clean all the contacts, reassemble, tighten snugly.
Any time a driver goes mental, it’s usually a bad connection somewhere. Loose retaining ring, oxidation on one/more surfaces, etc.
I only got the OG VG10s (somewhere…), not any 'Ses (only vaguely recall some “new feature” was something I didn’t like/want), so can’t recall specifically what diffs there might be.
In the good old days we usually bought lights with a reverse clicky, but the VG10 I have came with a forward clicky. It takes some time to adjust to that.
Apart from cleaning the internals of the light, have you tried to speed up, or to slow down, the frequency of your “clicking”? I have lights that seem to be stuck in gear, until I speed up the frequency.
Thanks Lightbringer. I will start working on cleaning it as per your advice. I will follow up ASAP. Thank you.
Ted
Thanks Henk4U2. I have to clean the unit as per your advice and also Lightbringer’s.
Initially, I tried varying the speed of clicking. It worked so far. I will still clean the internals.
Thanks very much.
Ted
Lightbringer-You are correct. I just brought it out of storage and got the moon only mode. Working on the internals, etc.
Thanks again.
Ted
I’ve had an old light with firmware issues, and fixed it (accidentally!) by aligning its reflector to the sun so that the sun is focused directly on the LED. LEDs are also solar panels, so doing this induces a current through the driver that might reset it. Doing this to an otherwise good light can also mess up the firmware (and doing it again seems to fix it).
Thanks Lightbringer for helping bring my ThorFire VG-10S back to life! After cleaning, all modes work and the strobe works. I didn’t even know it had strobe!
Best wishes always,
Ted
Thanks Henk4U2 for your help in bringing my ThorFire VG-10S back to life. I cleaned it and now all modes work. Thanks again very much.
Ted
Ew.
I mean… rah!
Strobe is an abomination unto the LORD.
But, glad it works!
Ooh, maybe that’s what I didn’t like about the S. That they added strobe whereas the OG didn’t have it.
Glad I brought up the strobe feature so you remembered the difference from the VG-10 and VG-10S!
I don’t use the obnoxious strobe mode either.
Peace.
Ted
