Thought you guys would get a kick of of this thing

Came across this beast at work today and I found it really neat and thought I Would share.

The picture really doesn’t show the size of this thing. That glass lens in the front is 34” in diameter and houses 2 1000watt incandescent bulbs and a 1/2hp motor.

This thing is old as well being around a bunker that was built around WW2 (there were 4 of the lights around the bunker)

Nameplate said it was manufactured by GE 2400watts 115v 22.6A

Wow, that’s a piece of history! Thanks for sharing!

If I ever have the money for a cannon in my back yard, I want one of those beside it

Thanks for sharing

I love this sort of stuff! Is there any chance this could be an airstrip landing light seconded for some other purpose by the MOD? Who knows, but I bet it has a fascinating history.

Edit: Sorry, this is obviously not located in the UK, so I should have referred to Dept of Defense(?) rather than MOD.

I was just wondering how a 1/2hp motor could be driving two 1Kw bulbs.

Doesn’t 1/2hp equate to 0.37Kw? :open_mouth:

Any beamshots? :D

Possibly a motor to turn the light . . .

I think the motor was used to rotate this thing.

That is an awesome lamp! I really dig the side glass in the top half. :)

Ah, that makes more sense! In that case, I think that’s a pretty beefy motor to rotate that.

I thought it was a gasoline generator to power the light or something.

Sounds like I’m not the only one having trouble with a neighbours cats…. I like your plan a lot!

You could literally fry those cats with this

no, I was thinking i could touch off the cannon at 11pm, immediatly followed by lighting up my neighbors bedroom window J)
they are not a very friendly couple, i tell you what

I originally thought the motor ran a fan to cool the bulb.

Wow nice. Captain America kinda tech.
