Throwy right angle beast

I have not kept up with the latest and greatest for a few years, and am not sure what light to now covet.

I ride an electric skateboard and at night have been using my Sofirn HS40 5K in my front facing hip pocket using the deep carry clip, with an Ampace JP30 powering it. On turbo, the light on the road ahead is quite good, considering. I can angle my hips to Aim the light, or just reach down and Aim it manually if approaching a sharp turn.

My only complaint is that the output steps down to 75-80%, and I often have to reach down and doubleclick to return turbo.

There is pretty good airflow over the light at speed, usually 15 to 20mph.

The battery capacity is no issue, and the battery when removed to check its temperature after rolling 10 miles or so, it is only warm,( compared to an EVE 35v) and the LED head itself does not feel overly hot to the touch, So I believe it ramps down based on time and not actual temperature, and certainly not voltage as the JP30 is a beast of a cell..

My other right angle Light is an Armytek c2 proMax 4000k.

The very floody beam of this is Unideal as I do not need to light up the treetops, and to get the same light on the road as the HS40, I need to use turbo 2, which only can last 50 seconds or so before ramping down. Both together at max output is basically excessive, but when they ramp down is not quite enough.

I am Using a Samsung 50S in the Armytek, but could use BAK45D or Eve40PL, and the latter 2 should laugh at the max amp draw, without issues.

I’d love a light with more output, pretty throwy with decent spill, that can maintain its output, or at least a good percentage more than the HS40 can. I am far more budget minded than the Armytek c2 Anomoly purchase would indicate.

I can keep using both lights , returning turbo every minute or so is not a huge deal, But I’d enjoy recommendations from the community.

5K is as blue as I can go…

21700’s are not really needed for their extra capacity, but their additional size and weight over an 18650 is Not a factor in my intended usage.

I don’t want to put lights on the Esk8 itself. I really like the hip height light, and My ability to Aim it, or politely shield pedestrians, or oncoming driver’s eyes, from its/ their excessive glare.

I cannot wear these headlamps on my head riding my esk8, as then my eyes and face can get pelted with insects.

WB, wrcsixeight!

Howbow one of those swivel holsters? Then you can open up choices to any/all straight lights. Eg, the IF22A.

I mentioned I clip the right angle light in my Hip pocket, but it is more of a thigh pocket, with the light Aimed nearly perpendicular to my thigh to hit the road ahead.
not sure a swivel holster will handle that angle.

I don’t really have disposable income atm, and am probably just gonna stick with the HS40, and just keep double clicking for a return for max output as needed.

Perhaps as the evenings cool off the output will stay higher for longer.

Watch a few videos of the armytek C2 pro max LR. The LR version has a noticeably tighter beam. I don’t know if it’ll be as tight and throwy as you’re looking for and I have no first hand experience with the LR version. Try to find some videos that compare the regular Max to the Max LR.

“Maybe” somebody could advise you as to the best combination of convoy H4 and led choice and the set of replacement tir s that is available.

Thanks for the input and suggestions.

I often seek to research what would be ideal, money/time no object, but then settle for far less, and this is one of those cases.

My HS40, with a JP30 inside, if it could maintain its max output level for longer, would be more than adequate for my purpose. But reaching down and double clicking to return max output, is not a huge deal either.

What I’d really like in a light for Esk8 use or not, is a wide flat beam with a relatively sharp cutoff, instead of round. I rarely need to see both the ground in front of my feet/wheels, AND what is up in the trees at the same time, and feel the light in the trees is light better concentrated to below and to the sides.

I was gifted some ‘Shredlights’ designed to be mounted to the baseplates of the Skateboard trucks and these do have a wider flatter beam pattern, but the batteries within are small, and old, and the output level is marginal, and I have never bothered mounting them.

I figure they are better for being seen than to see, unless going super slow and when any light is better than no light.

Perhaps modding those would be a time better spent, but they appear to have a glued together rubberized shell surrounding them, a micro USB charge port, and some sort of Lipo inside , So I likely will never try.

Clipping the HS40 right angle headlamp to the thigh pocket is just simple, convenient, and pretty effective.

I just thought there might be something better in the ~ 40$ range to justify spending the money on.

What you’re actually looking for is a bike specific light, that’s road legal in Germany for example (Stvzo regulation). There are plenty on the market but figuring out mounting will be a bit of a challenge. Keep in mind, that the beam shape will be light orientation specific. If you could figure out a mount to attach to a belt would probably help alot keeping the light horizontal like on the handlebars.
