This is my first post here. I have two identical Thrunite BSS V4 2523 lumen” tactical “ lights that use the SST70 LED. I bought them at the same time, both directly from Thrunite. Now in judging them side by side, one has a distinct purple/lavender hue at the edge of the spill/halo, and the other is pure white at the edges. Is this hue coming from the LED itself, and if so what’s the story here? Are there just normal variations between lights, but output is the same?
That’s odd that two lights purchased at the same time would differ like that!
But it’s probably not the LED - a purple ring at the edges of the beam is usually caused by the anti-reflective coating on the lens.
Try angling the lights (while off) and checking out the colour of the reflection their lenses.
My theory is that they perhaps used a different AR coating (or didn’t use one at all) on the light without the purple halo, so it will have non-purple reflections.
