Any New Zealanders keeping up with their fellow countryman Steven Adams? He’s a twenty year old rookie playing for the OKC Thunder NBA basketball team.
The Thunder are in the playoffs and Adams is starting to get more and more playing time as the season goes on. We love him here in Oklahoma.
Anyways, I knew there were a few from NZ on this forum and thought I would give you guys heads up.
I like him and I think most of the fans like him. The butt beating the Thunder took at the hands of the Clippers last night has dampened my enthusiasm at the moment but for a rookie, he doesn’t take any crap from opposing players.
Adams has gotten Vince Carter, Jordan Hamilton, Larry Sanders, Nate Robinson & Zach Randolph ejected, fined or suspended in 13-14. He is still rough around the edges but give him two or three years and he should be a defensive force.
Adams very lucky to make NBA draft. Not many people play basketball here in NZ - mind you there are only 4 million of us. We have only one professional team and that plays in the Australian league - they won that competition 3x in a row.
Game developed alot when the national team (Tall Blacks) had a v good American coach for some years - they managed to come 4th in the world champs not long ago. I think he accelerated the game alot, got talent scouts interested, got more players onto US college scholarships, and opened the door for these opportunities.
I seem to remember seeing Seattle (Seahawks?) win the football champs? - don’t think you need the basketball as well….
Just kidding bawilson2. I had to go there.
To tell you the truth, I didn’t pay much attention to the Thunder until they first made the playoffs and I didn’t pay attention to the whole “move from Seattle to OKC” thing. I do understand there is some bitterness though.
